Designation: EHS Officer (Environmental, Health & Safety Officer)

Position Overview

Kaygaon Paper Mill is seeking a proactive and dedicated EHS Officer to oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety functions across the plant. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations, promoting a strong safety culture, and minimizing workplace risks through effective implementation of EHS policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate with government authorities and regulatory bodies regarding EHS-related matters.
  • Monitor compliance with State Pollution Control Board norms and other environmental regulations.

Risk Assessment & Safety Management

  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, hazard identification, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
  • Identify unsafe conditions and practices and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement preventive safety measures to minimize workplace incidents.

Incident Investigation & CAPA

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and maintain records.

Training & Awareness

  • Conduct safety induction programs for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Organize safety awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, mock drills, and training sessions.
  • Promote employee engagement in workplace safety initiatives.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and fire safety systems.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and ensure readiness of firefighting and spill-response equipment.
  • Support crisis management and emergency response activities.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain EHS records, permits, inspection reports, training records, and statutory documentation.
  • Prepare and submit environmental and safety reports to management and regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure proper hazardous waste management and disposal documentation.

Qualifications

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Certifications

  • Diploma in Industrial Safety
  • NEBOSH Certification
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
  • OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 Certification

Experience

  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in EHS functions.
  • Experience in manufacturing, paper mills, chemical plants, pharmaceuticals, or industrial environments preferred.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to conduct investigations and implement CAPA effectively.
  • Proficiency in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
  • Good documentation and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
