Job Description:

Job Title: Project Engineer – Rubber Transmission Belts Project (Plant Setup &

Commissioning)

Job Summary

We are looking for a competent Project Engineer to plan, execute, and commission a

complete Rubber Transmission Belts project. The role includes coordinating plant layout,

machinery installation, utility setup, process development, vendor management, and

ensuring that the production system meets quality, safety, and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Planning & Execution

 Develop the complete project plan for setting up a rubber transmission belt

manufacturing line.

 Prepare project timelines, budget estimates, and resource plans.

 Coordinate with internal management and external consultants/vendors for smooth

project execution.

  1. Plant Layout & Machinery Setup

 Design or review plant layout for mixing, calendaring, moulding, curing, finishing, and

inspection areas.

 Coordinate installation, alignment, and commissioning of machinery such as:

o Rubber mixing mills / Banbury mixers

o Calendars

o Extruders

o Presses (hydraulic/steam)

o Curing ovens/vulcanizers

o Grinding & finishing machines

 Ensure all equipment complies with technical specifications and operational

standards.

  1. Utility Setup & Integration

 Plan and execute utility installations including:

o Boilers, compressors, chillers

o Electrical distribution systems

o Water cooling systems

o HVAC/ventilation

o Safety and fire systems

 Ensure utility integration with production equipment.

  1. Process Development & Optimization

 Develop production process parameters for rubber compounding, layer bonding,

curing, and belt finishing.

 Standardize process sheets, SOPs, and quality control checkpoints.

 Work with R&D/QA teams to establish product quality standards and testing

procedures.

  1. Vendor & Contractor Coordination

 Identify machinery suppliers, utility service providers, fabrication contractors, and raw

material vendors.

 Review technical quotations, negotiate terms, and supervise contractor activities.

 Ensure timely delivery and compliance with specifications.

  1. Quality, Compliance & Safety

 Ensure the plant setup complies with safety norms, ISO standards, and applicable

regulations.

 Support quality team in setting up testing labs and QC procedures (tensile testing,

hardness tests, dimensional checks).

 Conduct risk assessments and establish proper safety protocols for each stage.

  1. Documentation & Reporting

 Prepare project progress reports, machinery commissioning records, and compliance

documentation.

 Maintain technical files, layout drawings, SOPs, and maintenance manuals.

 Provide regular updates to management on project status and milestones achieved.

Required Skills & Competencies

 Strong knowledge of rubber processing, mechanical systems, and industrial

manufacturing.

 Ability to read engineering drawings, P&ID diagrams, and equipment manuals.

 Excellent project management, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

 Knowledge of belt manufacturing processes (mixing → calendaring → moulding →

curing → finishing).

 Good communication and vendor negotiation skills.

 Strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Educational Qualifications

 Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Polymer Engineering,

Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.

 Certifications in project management or manufacturing systems are a plus.

Experience Requirements

 10 - 15 year’s experience in project execution for rubber plants, industrial

manufacturing units, or heavy machinery installation.

 Experience with rubber processing equipment is must.

 Prior involvement in plant setup or greenfield/brownfield projects is an added

advantage.
