Position: Boiler & Turbine Engineer
Industry: Pulp & Paper Manufacturing
Location: Paithan, District Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra
Experience: 8 – 12 Years
Reporting To: Plant Head
Job Purpose
The Boiler & Turbine Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of boiler and turbine systems within the manufacturing facility. The role involves overseeing utility operations, preventive maintenance, statutory compliance, process optimization, and team management to support continuous plant operations and maximize steam and power generation efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Boiler Operations
• Supervise the operation of high-pressure boilers (AFBC/CFBC/WHRB, as applicable).
• Ensure optimum steam pressure, temperature, and boiler water quality.
• Monitor fuel consumption and boiler efficiency parameters.
• Ensure proper functioning of safety valves, gauges, controls, and instrumentation.
• Conduct routine inspections, shutdown inspections, and performance evaluations.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions.
- Turbine Operations
• Supervise the operation of Steam Turbine Generators (STG).
• Monitor turbine performance and maintain required power generation output.
• Manage turbine start-up, shutdown, and emergency operating procedures.
• Ensure vibration levels, lubrication systems, and auxiliary equipment operate within prescribed limits.
• Analyze operational data to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Safety & Statutory Compliance
• Ensure compliance with the Boiler Act, IBR Regulations, Factory Act, and Pollution Control Board norms.
• Maintain statutory records, operational logbooks, and inspection reports.
• Coordinate with Boiler Inspectors and regulatory authorities for certifications and annual inspections.
• Promote a strong safety culture and conduct safety awareness programs and drills.
• Ensure adherence to all EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) standards.
- Maintenance Planning & Coordination
• Coordinate with Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
• Plan and monitor maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
• Ensure availability of critical spares, consumables, and AMC requirements.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for recurring issues.
- Process Optimization
• Improve steam-to-power ratio, fuel efficiency, and heat recovery systems.
• Identify and implement cost-saving and energy conservation initiatives.
• Monitor key performance indicators such as steam generation cost, turbine heat rate, plant load factor, and utility efficiency.
• Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance overall plant performance.
- Team Management
• Lead and supervise Boiler Attendants, Turbine Operators, and Utility Staff.
• Conduct training programs for skill enhancement and operational excellence.
• Ensure effective manpower planning and shift management.
• Maintain discipline, safety compliance, and productivity within the department.
Required Qualifications
• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• Valid 1st Class or 2nd Class Boiler Attendant Certificate (Mandatory as per IBR norms).
Experience
• 8–12 years of relevant experience in Boiler & Turbine Operations within the Pulp & Paper, Process Manufacturing, Power Plant, Chemical, or related industries.
• Hands-on experience with high-pressure boilers (45 TPH and above) and Steam Turbine Generator (STG) operations.
• Exposure to utility management and energy optimization projects will be preferred.
