Plant & Machinery Engineer
Job Description:
Position Summary
The Plant & Machinery Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the installation, commissioning, and handover of plant machinery and equipment. The role ensures that all machinery installations are completed safely, within budget, and according to project schedules while meeting quality, performance, and statutory compliance requirements. The incumbent will work closely with vendors, contractors, production teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation Planning & Coordination
- Prepare detailed installation schedules and project execution plans.
- Coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, and resources required for installation activities.
- Monitor project progress and take corrective actions to maintain timelines.
- Ensure seamless coordination among internal departments and external agencies.
- Vendor & Contractor Management
- Liaise with OEMs, suppliers, and contractors throughout installation and commissioning phases.
- Supervise contractor activities to ensure adherence to technical specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Review contractor performance and certify work completion.
- Site Preparation & Infrastructure Readiness
- Assess and ensure readiness of machine foundations, utilities, electrical systems, compressed air, water, and other infrastructure.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, and utility teams for completion of pre-installation activities.
- Verify site readiness before machinery arrival.
- Machinery Installation & Alignment
- Oversee unloading, positioning, assembly, leveling, alignment, and installation of machinery.
- Ensure installations are carried out according to OEM guidelines and engineering standards.
- Verify accuracy of machine alignment, calibration, and operational settings.
- Commissioning & Performance Validation
- Support machine commissioning, trial runs, testing, and performance verification.
- Coordinate with production and quality teams during initial production trials.
- Resolve technical issues encountered during commissioning.
- Obtain machine acceptance and operational sign-off from stakeholders.
- Safety, Health & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and statutory regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement necessary control measures.
- Monitor safe work practices during installation and commissioning activities.
- Participate in safety audits and incident investigations as required.
- Documentation & Handover
- Maintain installation records, commissioning reports, manuals, drawings, and inspection documents.
- Prepare as-built documentation and equipment history records.
- Ensure complete documentation is handed over to operations and maintenance teams.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Guide and support technicians, supervisors, and junior engineers.
- Provide technical training and knowledge sharing related to machinery installation and operation.
- Promote teamwork, discipline, and continuous learning within the department.
- Cost & Schedule Control
- Monitor project expenditures and resource utilization.
- Identify opportunities to optimize installation costs without compromising quality or safety.
- Ensure projects are completed within approved budgets and timelines.
- Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements in machine layout, installation methods, workflow, and maintenance practices.
- Participate in plant improvement and productivity enhancement initiatives.
- Support implementation of best engineering practices and lessons learned from previous projects.
- Preventive Maintenance Readiness
- Develop preventive maintenance requirements for newly installed equipment.
- Identify critical spare parts and maintenance resources.
- Ensure smooth transfer of equipment to the maintenance team after commissioning.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, Purchase, Stores, EHS, and Finance teams.
- Facilitate timely resolution of technical and operational issues.
- Ensure alignment of project objectives with organizational goals.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline.
Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in plant machinery installation, project execution, maintenance, or industrial engineering.
- Experience in manufacturing, heavy engineering, machine building, automotive, process industries, or similar sectors preferred.
- Hands-on experience in machinery commissioning and industrial project execution.
