Role Overview:
The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving
workplace safety standards across manufacturing operations. The role involves hazard
identification, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, safety audits, accident
prevention, and emergency preparedness.
The position requires close coordination with operations, engineering, maintenance,
HR, contractors, and external regulatory bodies to ensure a safe and compliant
working environment. The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge of
occupational health and safety standards, safety engineering principles, and risk
assessment methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Safety Operations & Compliance
Conduct daily shopfloor safety rounds and identify unsafe acts/conditions.
Perform regular safety inspections and internal audits of facilities,
equipment, and work environments.
Ensure compliance with safety rules, PPE usage, and statutory regulations
(Factory Act, ISO 45001, OSHA standards).
Prepare and maintain safety checklists, permits, inspection records, and
compliance documentation.
Stay updated with evolving safety laws, standards, and emerging safety
technologies.
Evaluate and approve safety equipment, tools, and machinery to ensure
compliance with safety standards.
B. Work Permit & Risk Management
Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety
Analysis (JSA/JHA), HAZOP, and FMEA studies.
Implement engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE
requirements.

Analyse accident trends and develop preventive strategies to reduce
incidents.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Develop and implement workplace ergonomics programs to minimize
strain-related injuries.
C. Incident Investigation & Improvement
Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; conduct Root
Cause Analysis (RCA).
Recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and track closure.
Monitor contractor safety compliance and conduct safety inductions.
Evaluate and approve safety equipment, tools, lifting devices, cranes, and
machinery for compliance.
Inspect machine guarding, electrical safety systems, fire protection
systems, and safety devices.
D. Training & Awareness
Plan and conduct safety trainings, toolbox talks, emergency drills, and
awareness programs.
Design and oversee safety training modules for employees and contractors.
Provide technical safety guidance to engineering and operations teams
during project execution.
E. Emergency Preparedness & Coordination
Ensure firefighting systems, alarms, emergency exits, and evacuation
systems are functional.
Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including fire safety
and evacuation drills.
Assist in disaster management and first-aid readiness.
Coordinate with external safety agencies, regulatory authorities, and
certification bodies.
Qualifications and Experience:
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Safety Engineering, Mechanical, Industrial
Engineering, or related field with Safety Certification (ADIS / NEBOSH /
Industrial Safety Course).
3–5 years (Sr. Officer) of experience in manufacturing, heavy engineering, or
high-risk industrial environments.
ADIS / NEBOSH / First Aid / Fire Safety Certification / Certified Safety
Professional (CSP) or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of occupational safety standards (OSHA, ISO 45001,
NFPA, etc.) and local safety regulations.
Experience with safety audits, risk assessments, accident investigations, and
risk assessment methodologies like HAZOP, FMEA, and JSA.
Familiarity with industrial safety systems, fire protection systems, and
hazardous material handling.
Familiarity with safety management systems and data analysis tools.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to assess and mitigate risks.

Strong communication skills to educate and collaborate with teams on safety
best practices.
Attention to detail and proactive approach to workplace safety improvements.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team of
engineers, operations teams, and regulatory authorities.
Key Skills Required:
Relevant safety certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP),
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar.
Knowledge of safety engineering principles in hazardous materials, machine
safety, electrical safety, or fire prevention.
Experience in construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, energy, or other high-
risk industries.
Hands-on experience with safety data analysis, risk modelling, or ergonomics
assessments.
Strong background in emergency response planning, disaster management,
and first-aid training.
Familiarity with emerging safety technologies, such as IoT-based safety
monitoring systems.
Target Industries:
Candidates with prior experience in the following industries will be preferred
Heavy Engineering (L&T, ISGEC, Thermax, McNally etc.), Crane and
Material Handling Equipment and Manufacturing.
Having implemented the entire system from ground up is a plus
