Job Description:
A Vertical Boring Operator sets up and operates Vertical Boring Mills (VBMs) to machine large metal components “according to engineering drawings and quality specifications.”, as noted by They secure heavy workpieces “using bolts, jigs, clamps, shims, or other holding devices.”, as detailed by and inspect parts to ensure precise tolerances are met. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Machine Setup: Secure workpieces, select appropriate cutting tools, and establish zero reference points on the mill My Majors. 
  • Operation & Control: Adjust spindle speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts for optimal machining My Majors. Perform drilling, facing, boring, and reaming operations SimplyHired.
  • Quality Assurance: Measure finished components using precision instruments like micrometers, dial indicators, and bore gauges SimplyHired. 
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning, lubricate machine components, and replace worn cutting tools SimplyHired.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean 5S workspace SimplyHired. 
Qualifications
  • Experience: Proven experience setting up and operating large Vertical Boring Mills or similar CNC/manual machines 
  • Blueprint Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications 
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Physical stamina for heavy setups and dexterity in handling tooling and clearing swarf LinkedIn.
  • Education: A High School Diploma, trade certification (e.g., ITI in Machinist, Turner, or Fitter), or equivalent practical machine shop experience LinkedIn.
