Job Description:
A Lathe Operator sets up, adjusts, and operates conventional or CNC lathes to shape raw materials (metal, plastic) into precise parts. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, performing turning, boring, and threading, monitoring tool wear, and measuring finished parts with micrometers and calipers to meet exact engineering tolerances. 
Job Responsibilities
  • Setup & Operation: Mount workpieces, select appropriate cutting tools, and adjust lathe controls for proper speeds and feed rates. 
  • Machining Operations: Perform precision operations including turning, facing, threading, drilling, and knurling. 
  • Quality Control: Inspect fabricated parts against blueprints to ensure they meet specified tolerances using precision measuring instruments. 
  • Maintenance: Monitor machine performance, replace dull tools, and perform routine preventative maintenance.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to shop safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and keeping the work area clean. 
Key Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is highly preferred.
  • Experience: Proven experience operating manual or CNC lathe machines.
  • Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints, mechanical drawings, and geometric tolerances.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for long shifts.
