Job Description – HR Manager

Strategic HR & Compliance | Jewellery Industry

Location: Surat
Department: Human Resources
Reporting To: Management / Director

Role Purpose

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager – Strategic HR & Compliance to lead the HR function and ensure effective people management, statutory compliance, employee engagement, and HR governance across the organization.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in strategic HR, labour-law compliance, employee relations, and HR operations, preferably within the jewellery, manufacturing, retail, or other high-value industries.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic HR

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business objectives.

  • Manpower planning, organization structure, succession planning, and talent management.

  • Develop HR policies, processes, and SOPs.

  • Partner with management and department heads on people-related matters.

  • Drive performance management, KRAs/KPIs, promotions, and career development.

2. Recruitment & Employee Management

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment and manpower planning.

  • Ensure proper onboarding, documentation, and background verification.

  • Manage employee engagement, retention, grievances, and disciplinary matters.

  • Handle performance appraisal and employee development initiatives.

3. Payroll & HR Operations

  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

  • Manage attendance, leave, overtime, incentives, and employee benefits.

  • Ensure proper maintenance of employee records and HRMS.

4. Statutory & Labour Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable labour and employment laws.

  • Manage PF, ESIC, Gratuity, Bonus, Labour Welfare Fund, Minimum Wages, etc., as applicable.

  • Ensure compliance for Factory / Shops & Establishments, Contract Labour, working hours, leave, overtime, and other applicable requirements.

  • Manage POSH compliance and employee grievance mechanisms.

  • Maintain statutory registers, returns, licences, records, and compliance calendars.

  • Coordinate labour inspections, audits, and external compliance consultants.

5. Jewellery Industry-Specific Controls

  • Implement employee background verification and integrity checks for sensitive positions.

  • Establish employee accountability for handling gold, diamonds, jewellery, inventory, cash, and other high-value assets.

  • Ensure proper joining, transfer, handover, and exit clearance processes.

  • Maintain confidentiality controls relating to jewellery designs, customers, pricing, vendors, and business information.

  • Manage HR requirements related to karigars/artisans, production teams, showroom staff, and other operational employees.

6. HR MIS & Management Reporting

  • Prepare regular HR dashboards and MIS covering headcount, recruitment, attrition, absenteeism, payroll cost, manpower productivity, training, and compliance.

  • Identify HR risks and recommend corrective actions to management.

  • 100% timely statutory compliance.

  • Payroll accuracy and timely salary processing.

  • Reduction in employee attrition and absenteeism.

  • Timely closure of critical vacancies.

  • Performance appraisal completion.

  • Employee engagement and retention.

  • HR audit/compliance closure.

  • Manpower cost and productivity improvement.

  • Strong employee documentation and background verification.

  • Effective controls for employees handling high-value jewellery/material.

Qualification & Experience

  • MBA/PGDM in HR or equivalent qualification.

  • 10–15 years of HR experience, preferably with 3+ years in a managerial/strategic HR role.

  • Strong knowledge of Indian labour laws and statutory compliance.

  • Experience in jewellery / manufacturing / retail / luxury or high-value asset businesses will be preferred.
