Job Description:

 

1. Role Objective

To ensure consistent product and process quality through effective inspection, quality control, QMS implementation, customer complaint handling, problem-solving, documentation, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with customer requirements and applicable ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. In-Process & Final Quality Control

  • Conduct inspection of incoming raw materials, in-process components, and finished products.
  • Ensure products comply with drawings, specifications, control plans, SOPs, and customer requirements.
  • Perform patrol inspections at different stages of production.
  • Verify critical dimensions, characteristics, and process parameters.
  • Use measuring instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge, Bore Gauge, Gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Identify, segregate, and control non-conforming products.
  • Ensure proper identification and traceability of OK, rejected, rework, and hold material.
  • Escalate major quality issues to the Quality Manager and Production team.

B. Customer Quality Management

  • Handle customer complaints and quality-related communication.
  • Coordinate with internal departments for containment and corrective action.
  • Prepare and support 8D, CAPA, RCA, and customer complaint reports.
  • Ensure timely closure of customer complaints.
  • Analyze customer rejection trends and identify recurring quality problems.
  • Participate in customer visits, audits, and complaint resolution activities when required.

C. QMS – Quality Management System

  • Ensure effective implementation of ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 QMS requirements.
  • Maintain quality procedures, SOPs, Work Instructions, Control Plans, inspection standards, and quality records.
  • Support preparation and execution of Internal, Process, Product, Customer, and Certification Audits.
  • Identify audit non-conformities and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Follow up on CAPA / Corrective Action Reports and verify their effectiveness.
  • Maintain QMS documentation and ensure proper document revision control.
  • Support Management Review Meetings by providing required quality data and reports.
  • Monitor quality objectives and QMS-related KPIs.
  • Promote quality awareness and QMS compliance across the shop floor.

D. Rejection & COPQ Management

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly internal and customer rejection.
  • Prepare rejection analysis and Pareto reports.
  • Track Scrap, Rework, Sorting, Rejection and Customer Return costs.
  • Support preparation of monthly Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reports.
  • Identify major sources of rejection and coordinate improvement actions.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce rejection and COPQ.

E. Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct root cause analysis using:
    • 5 Why
    • Fishbone Diagram
    • Pareto Analysis
    • Why-Why Analysis
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Support Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, 5S, and process improvement activities.
  • Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Purchase, and Engineering teams to resolve quality issues.

F. Supplier & Incoming Quality

  • Conduct incoming inspection of raw materials and components.
  • Verify supplier material against specifications and inspection standards.
  • Coordinate with suppliers regarding quality problems.
  • Follow up on supplier corrective actions and 8D reports.
  • Maintain supplier quality records and rejection data.
  • Support supplier audits and supplier quality improvement activities.

G. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain inspection reports, rejection records, customer complaint records, CAPA, 8D, audit reports, and quality records.
  • Maintain calibration records for measuring and testing equipment.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality MIS reports.
  • Maintain traceability and proper documentation of quality-related activities.
  • Ensure all quality records are updated and available for audits.

H. Team Coordination & Training

  • Guide and supervise Quality Inspectors, Lab Assistants, and Sorting Teams, if assigned.
  • Train inspectors and shop-floor personnel on inspection methods and quality requirements.
  • Ensure proper understanding of drawings, specifications, Control Plans, and Work Instructions.
  • Promote quality awareness and discipline among production employees.
  • Coordinate with Production and other departments for timely resolution of quality issues.

3. Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Quality Control & Quality Assurance
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 / IATF 16949
  • Knowledge of QMS documentation and Internal Audits
  • Knowledge of 8D, CAPA, RCA, 5 Why, Fishbone & Pareto
  • Basic knowledge of PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA and Control Plan
  • Ability to read Engineering Drawings and GD&T
  • Knowledge of measuring instruments and inspection techniques
  • Knowledge of automobile component / engineering manufacturing processes
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and coordination skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and quality reporting

4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reduction in internal rejection
  • Reduction in customer complaints
  • On-time customer complaint closure
  • Reduction in COPQ
  • Improvement in First Pass Yield (FPY)
  • Audit compliance and timely closure of NCs
  • Effectiveness of CAPA / corrective actions
  • Improvement in supplier quality
  • Accuracy and timely completion of inspection reports
  • QMS compliance and documentation effectiveness

5. Educational Qualification

Preferred Qualification:
Diploma / BE Mechanical / Production / Metallurgy or Science Graduate with strong practical inspection and quality-control experience.

6. Experience

3–7 years of relevant experience in any of the following industries:

  • Fasteners
  • Forging
  • Automobile Components
  • Machining
  • Metal Processing
  • Engineering Manufacturing

Candidates with strong experience in QMS + QA/QC + Customer Quality + IATF 16949 will be preferred.

7. Compensation

Salary Budget: ₹40,000 – ₹50,000 per month

Preferred Candidate Profile:
A quality professional with strong hands-on experience in QA/QC, QMS, customer complaints, inspection, RCA, 8D/CAPA, audit handling, rejection analysis, and continuous improvement in an automotive or engineering manufacturing environment
