Job Description:

Position:      Project Manager

Location:       Gandhinagar

Experience:    10 - 15 Years

Industries:     Chemical

Responsibilities:        

  • Project Planning & Execution
  • Take ownership of plant expansion, modification, debottlenecking, infrastructure, and new installation projects.
  • Prepare detailed project execution plans with clear timelines, responsibilities, and milestones.
  • Monitor project progress on a daily and weekly basis against the agreed schedule.
  • Identify delays and bottlenecks early and take corrective action.
  • Ensure projects are completed within committed timelines and approved budgets. · Maintain clear project trackers and regularly update management on progress.
  • Engineering Coordination
  • Coordinate mechanical, chemical/process, civil, electrical, and instrumentation requirements of projects.
  • Review engineering drawings, equipment layouts, P&IDs, specifications, BOQs, and other project documents relevant to the assignment.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants and internal technical teams for timely completion of drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure that site execution is carried out as per approved drawings and technical requirements.
  • Identify practical engineering improvements during project execution.
  • Equipment Installation & Commissioning
  • Coordinate installation and commissioning of reactors, tanks, pumps, piping, utilities, structures, and other plant equipment.
  • Prepare and monitor equipment erection and commissioning schedules.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and suppliers for installation and technical support.
  • Ensure proper pre-commissioning checks and trial runs are completed.
  • Work closely with Production and Maintenance teams during plant start-up and stabilization.
  • Ensure proper handover of completed projects to the operating team.
  • Civil & Infrastructure Works
  • Coordinate civil construction and infrastructure development required for plant projects.
  • Monitor foundations, structures, buildings, equipment foundations, drainage, roads, and other civil works as applicable.
  • Ensure work is carried out according to approved drawings and specifications.
  • Monitor contractors for workmanship, quality, progress, and safety.
  • Contractor & Vendor Management
  • Manage contractors, fabricators, equipment suppliers, consultants, and service providers involved in project execution.
  • Define clear scope of work and monitor contractor performance.
  • Ensure contractors maintain adequate manpower and resources to meet project timelines.
  • Verify work progress and coordinate certification of contractor bills with concerned departments.
  • Resolve site-level technical and execution issues without unnecessary delays.
  • Project Cost & Budget Control
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and expenditure.
  • Track actual project costs against approved budgets.
  • Identify potential cost overruns in advance and bring them to management’s attention.
  • Evaluate technical and commercial proposals from vendors and contractors.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization without compromising safety, quality, or reliability.
  • Procurement Coordination
  • Prepare technical specifications and requirements for project-related procurement.
  • Coordinate with Purchase for timely procurement of equipment, materials, and services.
  • Follow up with vendors to ensure delivery according to project schedules.
  • Ensure long-lead items are identified and ordered sufficiently in advance.
  • Carry out technical evaluation of vendor quotations wherever required.
  • Safety & Project Site Management
  • Ensure that all project activities are carried out in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Ensure contractors and workers follow PPE, work permit, LOTO, work-at-height, confined-space, hot-work, and other applicable safety requirements.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and discipline at project sites.
  • Ensure project timelines are never achieved at the cost of safety.
  • Quality Control During Execution
  • Ensure equipment, fabrication, piping, civil construction, and installation meet approved specifications.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and identify deviations.
  • Ensure corrective action is taken before work proceeds further.
  • Maintain appropriate inspection, testing, and project documentation.
  • Coordination with Plant Operations
  • Plan project activities in consultation with Production and Maintenance to minimize disruption to running plant operations.
  • Properly plan shutdown-related project activities to minimize production losses.
  • Ensure modifications are practical from an operating and maintenance perspective. · Involve operating teams before commissioning and handover.
  • Project MIS & Management Reporting
  • Prepare regular project status reports for management.
  • Report progress against timelines, budget, major milestones, pending decisions, and critical issues.
  • Maintain action trackers for contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal departments.
  • Highlight potential delays and cost overruns well before they affect the overall project schedule.
  • Maintain complete project documentation including drawings, approvals, specifications, manuals, and handover documents.
