Job Description:
A purchasing manager (or procurement manager) oversees a company’s buying activities. They find and test new vendors, negotiate contracts, manage budgets, and make sure the business gets the right goods and services at the best price and quality.
Core Responsibilities
- Vendor Sourcing: Find and test new suppliers. Check prices, quality, and delivery speed.
- Contract Negotiation: Talk with sellers to get low prices, good payment terms, and clear service rules.
- Order Management: Approve purchase orders. Keep track of goods ordered and received.
- Inventory Control: Work with warehouse and finance teams to check stock levels and predict future supply needs.
- Team Leadership: Hire, train, and guide buyers and other staff in the purchasing department.
- Policy Compliance: Make sure all purchases follow company rules and local laws.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Several years of work experience in purchasing, logistics, or supply chain roles.
- Negotiation: Strong skills to persuade vendors and lower costs without losing quality.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to read data, study market trends, and manage a budget.
- Communication: Clear speaking and writing skills to work with different teams and outside partners.
