AM - Costing (Accountant)

Location: Haridwar, Uttarakhand

Department: Finance & Accounts / Costing
Designation: Assistant Manager – Costing (Accountant)
Experience: 5–8 Years
Qualification: B.Com / M.Com / CA Inter / CMA Inter or CMA preferred
Industry Preference: Cosmetics, FMCG, Manufacturing, Personal Care, Pharma or similar manufacturing industry

Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced AM - Costing (Accountant) to manage product and manufacturing cost accounting activities, including cost calculation, variance analysis, inventory valuation, MIS reporting, budgeting and cost control. The role will work closely with Finance, Production, Purchase, Stores and other cross-functional teams to ensure accurate costing and support management in improving cost efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product & Manufacturing Costing

  • Prepare and maintain product-wise / SKU-wise cost sheets.

  • Calculate standard, actual and estimated product costs.

  • Analyze material, labour, overhead and conversion costs.

  • Maintain and review BOM, standard rates and costing parameters.

  • Ensure accurate allocation of manufacturing overheads.

  • Monitor changes in raw material, packaging material, labour and overhead costs.

2. Cost Variance Analysis

  • Prepare periodic standard vs. actual cost variance reports.

  • Analyze material price, material usage, production, labour and overhead variances.

  • Identify major cost deviations and highlight reasons to management.

  • Work with Production, Purchase and Stores teams for corrective actions.

  • Monitor cost trends and identify opportunities for cost reduction.

3. Inventory & Stock Accounting

  • Support accurate valuation of raw materials, packaging materials, WIP and finished goods.

  • Reconcile physical stock with books/system records.

  • Analyze inventory consumption and production-related variances.

  • Coordinate with Stores and Production for stock reconciliation.

  • Support periodic physical inventory verification and audit requirements.

4. MIS & Management Reporting

  • Prepare monthly costing and financial MIS.

  • Develop product profitability and contribution analysis.

  • Prepare cost comparison reports for different products/SKUs.

  • Provide management with insights on cost movement and profitability.

  • Prepare reports related to production cost, consumption, inventory and variance.

5. Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets and cost projections.

  • Monitor actual expenses against budget.

  • Track manufacturing overheads and identify areas of cost leakage.

  • Support cost reduction and productivity improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in financial planning and forecasting activities.

6. Accounts & Reconciliation

  • Review accounting entries related to manufacturing costs and inventory.

  • Perform relevant ledger and account reconciliations.

  • Coordinate with the Accounts team for month-end closing.

  • Ensure proper accounting treatment of production and inventory-related transactions.

  • Support statutory, internal and management audits with required schedules and documentation.

7. ERP / System Management

  • Maintain accurate costing and accounting data in ERP/accounting systems.

  • Review BOM, item masters, purchase rates, production data and costing records.

  • Generate costing and financial reports from ERP.

  • Identify discrepancies between operational and accounting data and coordinate for correction.

Key Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge of Cost Accounting and Management Accounting.

  • Product costing and manufacturing costing.

  • Standard costing and variance analysis.

  • Inventory valuation and reconciliation.

  • Manufacturing overhead allocation.

  • Budgeting, forecasting and cost control.

  • Strong knowledge of Excel / Advanced Excel.

  • Good understanding of ERP systems such as SAP / Tally / Oracle / Dynamics or similar.

  • Good analytical and numerical skills.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.

  • Ability to work with Production, Purchase, Stores and Finance teams.

  • Good communication and reporting skills.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • 5–8 years of relevant experience in Costing / Cost Accounts / Plant Finance / Manufacturing Accounts.

  • Candidates from Cosmetics, FMCG, Personal Care, Pharma, Chemical or other process/manufacturing industries will be preferred.

  • Should have hands-on experience in product costing, inventory accounting and variance analysis.

  • Should be comfortable working in a plant/manufacturing environment.

  • Strong Excel and ERP exposure is essential.

  • CMA Inter / CA Inter qualification will be an added advantage.

  • Accuracy of product and manufacturing costing.

  • Timely completion of monthly costing and MIS.

  • Accuracy of inventory valuation and reconciliation.

  • Variance identification and corrective-action tracking.

  • Budget vs. actual cost control.

  • Timely month-end closing and reporting.

  • Identification and implementation of cost-saving opportunities.
