About the DGM – HR & Industrial Relations Role

The selected candidate will lead the HR and Industrial Relations function for a large manufacturing operation and will be responsible for maintaining industrial harmony, managing trade unions, negotiating settlements, ensuring labour law compliance and supporting plant productivity.

Industrial Relations and Union Handling will be the core focus of this position.

The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of independently managing unionized manufacturing environments, conducting collective bargaining, negotiating wage settlements and Long-Term Settlements (LTS), resolving labour disputes and handling complex employee relations matters.


Key Responsibilities – DGM HR & IR

1. Industrial Relations & Union Handling

  • Lead the complete Industrial Relations function for the manufacturing facility.
  • Manage relationships with recognized trade unions and employee representatives.
  • Independently handle Union Negotiations and Collective Bargaining.
  • Lead Long-Term Wage Settlements (LTS) and wage revision negotiations.
  • Handle productivity-linked settlements, bonus negotiations and other workmen settlements.
  • Develop proactive strategies to maintain industrial peace and harmonious employee relations.
  • Handle grievances, industrial disputes and workforce-related conflicts.
  • Manage strikes, go-slow situations, demonstrations and other industrial relations challenges.
  • Provide strategic IR advice to Plant Head and senior management.

2. Labour Laws & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Central and Maharashtra labour laws.
  • Manage statutory requirements related to factory operations and workmen.
  • Handle Labour Department and Factory Inspectorate inspections.
  • Coordinate with PF, ESIC and other statutory authorities.
  • Manage labour disputes and conciliation proceedings.
  • Ensure proper statutory documentation and records.
  • Monitor compliance of contract labour and manpower service providers.

3. Plant HR Management

  • Lead end-to-end Plant HR Operations.
  • Develop manpower plans aligned with production and business requirements.
  • Drive manpower optimization and workforce productivity.
  • Monitor absenteeism, attrition, overtime and workforce costs.
  • Partner with Plant Leadership and Operations teams on HR initiatives.
  • Implement HR policies, processes and systems across the manufacturing facility.

4. Contract Labour Management

  • Manage contract labour deployment and productivity.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Conduct contractor compliance audits.
  • Monitor contractor wages, PF, ESIC, attendance and statutory documentation.
  • Drive cost-effective contract workforce management.

5. Employee Relations

  • Build strong employee relations and workplace engagement.
  • Establish effective grievance-resolution mechanisms.
  • Conduct employee communication and workmen engagement initiatives.
  • Drive employee welfare and engagement programs.
  • Promote discipline, productivity and accountability.

6. Disciplinary Proceedings & Domestic Enquiries

  • Handle misconduct cases, charge sheets and show-cause notices.
  • Conduct and manage Domestic Enquiries.
  • Handle disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Coordinate with Legal teams on labour disputes and litigation.
  • Maintain proper documentation of disciplinary and IR cases.

7. Government Liaisoning

Develop and maintain effective relationships with:

  • Labour Department
  • Labour Commissioner
  • Factory Inspector
  • PF / ESIC Authorities
  • Local Government Authorities
  • Other statutory bodies

Represent the organization in inspections, conciliation proceedings and labour-related matters.


Candidate Profile

Required Experience

  • 15–25 years of experience in HR & Industrial Relations.
  • Strong experience in Manufacturing / Steel / Metals / Engineering / Process Industries.
  • Significant experience working with Unionized Manufacturing Workforces.
  • Proven experience in Union Handling and Collective Bargaining.
  • Hands-on experience in Long-Term Settlements (LTS) and Wage Negotiations.
  • Experience managing large workforces and contract labour.
  • Strong exposure to labour disputes, disciplinary proceedings and government liaisoning.

Mandatory Skills

Candidates MUST have strong hands-on Industrial Relations and Union Handling experience.
