Job Description:

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Electrical Design & Engineering 
  • Prepare complete electrical designs for LT Control Panels and Automation Panels. 
  • Prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Power & Control Circuit Diagrams and Wiring Diagrams.
  • Develop panel GA drawings, component layouts and internal wiring drawings.
  • Select suitable electrical components based on technical requirements.
  • Prepare and verify BOM (Bill of Material).
  • Calculate cable sizes, breaker ratings, busbar sizes and other electrical parameters.
  • Ensure proper component coordination and protection philosophy.
  • Review and finalize control circuit logic and interlocking requirements.
  • Prepare terminal plans, ferrule/wire schedules and cable schedules where applicable. 
  1. Customer & Project Coordination
  • Study customer enquiries, specifications, approved drawings and technical documents.
  • Understand customer requirements and convert them into practical engineering solutions.
  • Prepare technical documents for customer approval.
  • Attend technical discussions with customers, consultants and project teams.
  • Resolve technical queries raised by customers, production and site engineers.
  • Incorporate customer comments and revise drawings accordingly. 
  1. Design Review & Verification
  • Review designs before releasing drawings for production.
  • Verify drawings against approved specifications and BOM.
  • Check electrical ratings, component compatibility and control logic.
  • Ensure design changes are properly recorded and controlled.
  • Minimize design errors, rework and material wastage.
  • Coordinate with Production, Purchase, QC and PLC/Automation teams. 
  1. Production & Site Support
  • Provide technical support to the production team during panel assembly and wiring.
  • Resolve design-related issues arising during manufacturing.
  • Visit customer sites whenever required for technical support, inspection, testing or commissioning.
  • Support FAT/SAT activities and troubleshooting.
  • Provide necessary clarification to panel wiring and testing teams. 
  1. Documentation & ISO Compliance
  • Maintain proper design records and revision history.
  • Follow the company's document control procedure.
  • Ensure drawings are released only after proper checking and approval.
  • Maintain design calculation sheets and technical records where applicable.
  • Support ISO 9001:2015 requirements related to Design & Development.
  • Participate in internal audits, corrective actions and continual improvement activities.
  1. Team Coordination & Leadership
  • Guide Junior Design Engineers and Design Assistants.
  • Review drawings prepared by junior team members.
  • Allocate design work based on project priority and workload.
  • Train team members on design standards, drawing practices and company procedures.
  • Coordinate with HOD and management regarding project status and technical issues.

  1. Design Accuracy – Percentage of drawings released without major errors.
  2. 2. On-Time Drawing Submission – Drawings submitted as per project schedule.
  3. 3. Design Revision Control – Proper recording and control of revisions.
  4. 4. BOM Accuracy – Reduction in BOM-related purchase and production errors.
  5. 5. Production Rework Due to Design Errors – Minimize rework caused by design issues.
  6. 6. Customer Approval Cycle Time – Timely submission and closure of customer comments.
  7. 7. Technical Query Resolution – Timely resolution of production/site/customer queries. 8
  8. . Design Cost Optimization – Identify opportunities for material and cost reduction.
  9. 9. Drawing Standardization – Compliance with company drawing standards.
  10. 10. Team Support & Training – Effective technical guidance to junior engineers. 
  1. Required Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of LT Electrical Control Panels.
  • Good knowledge of PCC, MCC, APFC, PLC and Automation Panels.
  • Knowledge of electrical protection devices such as MCCB, MCB, ACB, contactors, overload relays, relays, timers, etc.
  • Knowledge of control components, SMPS, transformers, VFDs, PLCs and HMIs.
  • Knowledge of busbar sizing and panel component selection.
  • Ability to read and prepare electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Good knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical / AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards and safety requirements.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and panel wiring practices.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC/automation is an advantage.

The Senior Design Engineer shall be responsible for ensuring that:

  • Design output meets customer requirements.
  • Drawings and BOM are accurate.
  • Design revisions are properly controlled.
  • Design-related production errors are minimized.
  • Applicable technical and safety requirements are considered.
  • Customer comments are incorporated within the agreed timeline.
  • Required design records are maintained.
