Position: Slitting Supervisor – BOPP Mainline
Department: Production / Slitting
Reporting To: Production Manager / Plant Head

Job Purpose

The Slitting Supervisor is responsible for supervising and controlling the slitting and rewinding operations of BOPP film, ensuring that finished rolls are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications and quality standards. The position is responsible for achieving production targets while minimizing waste, roll defects, downtime, and material losses.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day operation of BOPP film slitting and rewinding machines.
• Ensure production is carried out as per the approved production plan, work orders, and customer specifications.
• Verify film width, roll length, winding direction, core size, roll diameter, and other specifications before starting each job.
• Ensure correct machine setup, including slitting knives/blades, shafts, cores, tension settings, web alignment, differential winding, and other relevant parameters.
• Monitor and control slitting parameters such as web tension, winding tension, line speed, nip pressure, and other process parameters.
• Ensure proper edge quality and accurate slit width with minimum tolerance deviation.
• Monitor finished rolls for defects such as telescoping, starring, wrinkles, loose winding, tight winding, edge damage, scratches, blocking, contamination, and uneven roll formation.
• Ensure proper identification, labeling, weighing, and segregation of finished rolls according to product specifications.
• Minimize trim waste, start-up waste, roll rejection, and other material losses.
• Coordinate with the BOPP Mainline/Production, Quality Control, Maintenance, Stores, and Dispatch teams to ensure smooth material flow.
• Inspect jumbo/master rolls received from the BOPP mainline before releasing them for slitting.
• Check master-roll identification, width, thickness, grade, winding condition, and quality status before processing.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of jumbo rolls and finished slit rolls to prevent damage and contamination.
• Coordinate with Quality Control regarding any quality deviations and ensure appropriate segregation or corrective action.
• Maintain accurate records of production, wastage, downtime, rejected rolls, rework, and material consumption.
• Analyze slitting losses and implement measures to improve material utilization.
• Supervise machine operators, helpers, and other personnel working in the slitting section.
• Allocate manpower and responsibilities according to the shift production requirements.
• Ensure proper shift handover, including machine status, pending jobs, quality issues, breakdowns, and material availability.
• Coordinate with the Maintenance Department for preventive maintenance and breakdown resolution.
• Ensure that knives, blades, cores, shafts, and other consumables are available and maintained properly.
• Ensure compliance with SOPs, work instructions, quality procedures, and approved machine parameters.
• Ensure strict compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, 5S, housekeeping, and environmental requirements.
• Conduct toolbox talks and ensure that operators follow safe operating practices.
• Immediately report any major machine breakdown, quality deviation, safety incident, or abnormal operating condition to the Production Manager.
• Train and guide operators on machine operation, product handling, quality requirements, troubleshooting, and safety.
• Participate in root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous-improvement activities to improve productivity and reduce wastage.
