About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to manage accounting and financial reporting activities for a sugar manufacturing facility in Uganda.

The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, financial records, reconciliations, monthly reporting, closing activities, audit coordination, and supporting management with financial information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations of the factory.
  • Maintain accurate books of accounts and financial records.
  • Record and review purchase, sales, receipt, payment, and journal entries in Tally.
  • Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers, vouchers, and supporting documents.
  • Prepare and review bank, cash, supplier, and customer reconciliations.
  • Monitor Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Verify invoices, expenses, purchase documents, and payment requests.
  • Prepare monthly accounting reports and financial schedules.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
  • Monitor factory-related expenses and maintain appropriate expense records.
  • Ensure proper accounting documentation is maintained for audit purposes.
  • Coordinate with Purchase, Stores, Production, Administration, and other departments.
  • Identify accounting discrepancies and support timely resolution.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Provide financial information, reports, and analysis to management.
  • Supervise and guide junior accounting staff, wherever applicable.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • 5–6 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Tally is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and general accounting principles.
  • Experience in ledger management, bank reconciliation, AP and AR.
  • Experience preparing accounting reports and financial schedules.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to independently manage accounting responsibilities.
  • Strong coordination skills across multiple departments.
  • Manufacturing, sugar, agro-processing, or similar industry experience will be preferred.
  • Willingness to relocate to Uganda and work in a factory/industrial environment.
