Job Overview

Orbit Global HR Consultants LLP, a leading pharma recruitment and hiring agency in Hyderabad, is hiring an experienced Purchase Manager / Procurement Manager for a pharmaceutical and biotechnology organization specializing in injectable formulations.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the complete procurement cycle, including purchase requisitions, vendor development, commercial negotiations, purchase order management, material planning and timely delivery of materials.

The candidate should have relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, preferably in an injectable formulation manufacturing facility, with expertise in procuring engineering materials, raw materials, plant and machinery, maintenance spares, consumables, services and capital equipment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement and Purchase Management

• Manage the complete purchase cycle from purchase indent and enquiry to purchase order release and material delivery.

• Review, prioritize and process purchase requisitions received from different departments.

• Procure engineering items, raw materials, consumables, maintenance spares, services and capital equipment.

• Ensure materials and services are procured within approved budgets and required timelines.

• Coordinate with internal departments to understand technical specifications and material requirements.

2. Vendor Development and Management

• Identify, evaluate and develop reliable vendors and suppliers.

• Float enquiries, obtain quotations and prepare comparative statements.

• Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties and other commercial conditions.

• Maintain strong vendor relationships and evaluate supplier performance.

• Develop alternate vendors to improve availability, quality and cost competitiveness.

3. Pharmaceutical and Engineering Procurement

• Handle procurement requirements for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing operations.

• Coordinate the purchase of engineering materials, plant and machinery, maintenance items, utilities-related equipment and technical services.

• Manage procurement of raw materials in coordination with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Production and Stores.

• Support preparation of User Requirement Specifications (URS) and procurement of capital equipment.

• Ensure appropriate technical specifications, documentation and required quality approvals are available before procurement.

4. Material Planning and Inventory Coordination

• Coordinate with Production, Engineering, QC, QA, R&D and Stores to ensure timely availability of materials.

• Monitor inventory levels, pending indents, open purchase orders and critical stock items.

• Follow up with vendors to prevent material shortages and production interruptions.

• Support timely replenishment of fast-moving and critical materials.

5. Cost Control and Commercial Negotiations

• Identify opportunities for cost savings through negotiation, competitive sourcing and vendor development.

• Monitor procurement expenditure against approved budgets.

• Evaluate supplier quotations on price, quality, delivery and service parameters.

• Support procurement planning and cost-optimization initiatives.

6. MIS, ERP and Documentation

• Prepare procurement MIS, purchase reports, pending order statements and ageing reports.

• Maintain accurate purchase orders, quotations, comparative statements and vendor records.

• Update procurement transactions and supplier details in the ERP system.

• Coordinate with Finance for invoice verification, discrepancy resolution and vendor payment matters.

• Ensure compliance with company procurement procedures and applicable documentation requirements.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Relevant experience in purchase or procurement, preferably within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing organization.

• Experience in an injectable formulation manufacturing unit will be an advantage.

• Practical exposure to engineering items, raw materials, consumables, services, spares and capital equipment.

• Ability to coordinate with technical, production, quality and finance teams.

• Strong commercial negotiation skills and an understanding of manufacturing procurement requirements.
