Job Overview: NPD Designer – Sheet Metal

We are looking for a technically skilled NPD Designer to support new product development and engineering design activities for sheet metal components and assemblies. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing 2D drawings, developing 3D models, evaluating product feasibility, supporting prototype development, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches.

The ideal candidate should understand sheet metal manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, CAD software, product design, and design-for-manufacturing principles.

Key Responsibilities

1. New Product Development and Design

• Design and develop new sheet metal components and assemblies according to customer specifications.

• Prepare detailed 2D engineering drawings, 3D models, and component designs.

• Study customer drawings, product specifications, and technical requirements.

• Conduct design feasibility reviews and identify potential manufacturing challenges.

• Implement design modifications and engineering changes as required.

• Support prototype development, sample preparation, and product validation.

2. CAD Design and Engineering Drawings

• Use CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX for product design and modelling.

• Prepare detailed component drawings, assembly drawings, and design documentation.

• Apply GD&T principles and ensure dimensional accuracy in engineering drawings.

• Maintain drawing revisions and engineering change records.

• Ensure designs meet customer specifications and manufacturing requirements.

3. Sheet Metal Manufacturing and Process Coordination

• Develop designs suitable for sheet metal cutting, punching, bending, stamping, forming, and fabrication.

• Coordinate with production, tooling, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams.

• Ensure product designs are practical to manufacture and cost-effective.

• Support tooling feasibility assessments and production trials.

• Identify design-related production issues and coordinate corrective actions.

4. Quality and Documentation

• Maintain design records, Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, and product development documentation.

• Support APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, and related automotive quality documentation where applicable.

• Participate in design reviews and engineering improvement initiatives.

• Support continuous improvement in product quality, manufacturability, and cost optimisation.

Required Skills and Qualifications
