Job Description:
An Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager designs, implements, and oversees workplace safety, occupational health, and environmental compliance programs to prevent injuries and meet regulatory requirements.
Job Purpose
To provide strategic leadership for EHS, statutory compliance, risk management, and environmental performance across plant or site operations.
Key Responsibilities
- EHS Management: Develop, implement, and monitor workplace safety policies, risk assessments (HIRA, HAZOP), and safety management systems (ISO 45001 / ISO 14001).
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure alignment with national and local labor/environmental laws (such as the Factories Act, Pollution Control Board regulations, and OSHA/EPA standards).
- Audits & Inspections: Lead internal and external EHS audits, safety committee meetings, and facility walkthroughs; drive timely closure of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses using root-cause analysis tools (Why-Why, 8D) to prevent recurrence.
- Training & Culture: Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, emergency response drills, and staff training to foster a proactive safety culture.
- Environmental & Waste Oversight: Manage effluent treatment plant (ETP) operations, hazardous waste disposal, emissions monitoring, and sustainability initiatives where applicable.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Environmental), Environmental Science, or Occupational Health & Safety.
- Certifications: Recognized Industrial Safety qualification / Diploma (e.g., PDIS/ADIS), NEBOSH IGC, or CSP/ASP credentials preferred.
- Experience: 5 to 15+ years of hands-on experience in EHS management within manufacturing, chemical plants, construction, or industrial facilities.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of statutory legislation, risk assessment tools, incident investigation, stakeholder communication, and EHS reporting software.
