MINING FOREMAN

Job Description:

Mine foremen are responsible for ensuring proper ventilation throughout a mine and overseeing the work of miners to ensure that they are wearing all of the appropriate gear and in accordance with state law. They must also monitor the mine's roof conditions and note any changes in its structural integrity. All state and local rules and regulations must be enforced by mine foremen, and they must also ensure all miners are working safely and efficiently at all times. These foremen are often tasked with training new miners, and it is especially important to teach the safe operation of machinery, as working within a mine can be quite dangerous if equipment is not handled correctly. Educational and experience requirements for the position may vary by geographic location. Some employers may prefer at least five years of prior experience, while others prefer applicants with a college degree in a relevant field. Aspiring mine foremen must also have exceptional physical strength and endurance, as the position is quite labor-intensive

• Plan, coordinate, schedule and direct daily operations.
• Train and evaluate employees, ensure safe work practices and conditions.
• Ensure production goals are met.
• Keep operations within the established budget and timeline.
