Panel Officer (Hydrogenation) - Production
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
-
Plant Monitoring and Control:
-
Operate and monitor the DCS/PLC panel to control, regulate, and optimize process variables such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and levels within the hydrogenation reactors and associated units (e.g., hydrogen generation, catalyst handling, filtration, refining).
-
Continuously scan critical parameters, trends, and alarms on the DCS/PLC to identify deviations, abnormalities, or potential issues.
-
Adjust unit conditions and take corrective actions for process parameter adjustments as required to achieve throughput requirements and on-specification products within unit limitations.
-
Ensure efficient operation by scanning spot values and trends of critical parameters and laboratory results at intermittent intervals, and instructing/guiding field operators on corrective actions if needed.
-
-
Troubleshooting and Emergency Response:
-
Promptly respond to alarms and system alerts, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with relevant teams (field operators, maintenance).
-
Carry out independently plant startup, shutdown, and emergency handling procedures in coordination with the Shift In-charge and field operators.
-
Implement emergency procedures to secure units or equipment during abnormal or emergency situations, safeguarding personnel and assets.
-
Investigate reasons for off-specification results and initiate check samples to the laboratory as required to prevent routing off-specification products.

Operations Management and Optimization:
-
Maintain normal operating parameters and ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency during steady-state run, startup, shutdowns, and emergencies by continuously monitoring the control panel while adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
-
Ensure specific consumptions (raw materials, utilities like hydrogen, steam, cooling water, electricity) are as per norms by estimating consumption patterns and taking corrective steps to match desired consumption norms.
-
Initiate maintenance requests in case of equipment failure in coordination with field operators and Shift In-charge.
-
Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities of new units or modifications.
-
-
Quality Assurance:
-
Maintain product quality by closely watching and logging panel readings on critical operating parameters and plant equipment to diagnose problems and potential breakdown symptoms, taking corrective actions, and checking for recurrence.
-
Inform the Shift In-charge about any identified deviation in process parameters, find its cause, and take corrective actions in consultation with the Shift In-charge to ensure product quality as per specifications.
-
-
Safety, Health, and Environment (EHS):
-
Strictly adhere to all EHS policies, procedures, and regulations, including permit-to-work systems, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, and emergency response plans.
-
Monitor fire and gas panels and interact with the fire control center during failure of any plant protection system.
-
Participate in tabletop exercises, mock drills, EHS audits, safety committee meetings, and other safety-related activities.

-
-
Documentation and Reporting:
-
Compile and record operating data, instrument readings, results of analysis, and highlight any abnormality or deviations to the Shift In-charge.
-
Report detailed shift logs in writing, mentioning any key parameter changes, events, actions taken, and follow-ups.
-
Retrieve and refer to relevant, updated data and plant documentation as required.
-
-
Teamwork and Communication:
-
Coordinate system shutdown and startup through panel operation and effective communication to the field operators.
-
Communicate effectively with field operators, Shift In-charge, maintenance personnel, and other departments.
