Job Description:
Colour technicians have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Mixing paint colors to match existing colors in a room or space
- Preparing surfaces for painting by scraping them to remove old paint, patching holes, and sanding
- Applying primer to bare surfaces to create a foundation for the next coat of paint
- Mixing paint or other materials according to manufacturer’s specifications
- Cleaning tools or work areas after projects have been completed
- Applying paint to walls or other surfaces using brushes, sprayers, rollers, or other tools such as scaffolding
- Clearing messes from work areas such as sweeping up debris from cutting in new carpet or removing construction materials from inside a wall cavity
- Reviewing blueprints and sketches with clients to determine painting needs and aesthetic preferences
- Determining the appropriate type of paint or other product based on surface type and condition, the desired finish, and geographic location
