Position Description

Staff Meteorologists collect and verify data from satellite images, radar, remote sensors and weather stations worldwide and apply factors such as air pressure, temperature and humidity at various atmospheric levels to analyze effects on aircraft operations to produce timely and accurate written and verbal flight weather briefings. Consult with flight planning in the selection of suitable alternate locations and routings to avoid potential weather hazards. Perform quality control on weather text, graphics, flight plans and applicable additional information such as hotels, permits, handling, etc. Monitor in-flight weather alerts. Participate in the departments continuing education program, completing the required units per year. Support other operational divisions as needed. Log verbal briefs, take and process client flight weather briefing requests into the job work list. Coordinate with the map specialist for custom graphic requests and updates. Perform additional duties as assigned.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and verify global weather model data to accurately produce basic weather forecasts and information tailored to each clients specific mission under supervision of mentor, coach, or other experienced meteorologists to generate written and oral flight weather briefings.
  • Monitor In Flight Weather Alerts and promptly notify clients of changes according to policies, procedures, best practices, and client preferences.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, provide, and document verbal weather briefings to clients.
  • Process client flight weather briefings requests into the job work list.
  • Coordinate the timely and accurate delivery of information by working cross functionally with
    internal and external customers to include the Portfolio Teams, Hotel Accommodations, Regulatory Services, corporate flight departments, and handlers
  • Collect input from a variety of internal and external sources, merge text to create package according to client preferences, and transmit to clients.
  • Consult with flight planners in the selection of suitable alternate locations and routings to avoid potential flight weather hazards.
  • Have the Meteorology skillset to forecast for fixed wing aircraft, helicopter and fixed ground based customer sites.
  • Monitor active flights for weather hazards, NOTAM changes and any other activity that could affect an active flight and report activity to crew
  • Monitor NOTAMS, Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), and other bulletins and alert crews of changes effecting aircraft operations.
  • Check all transactions, messages and requests before transmission and thoroughly review each folder upon completion of the assigned task to ensure accuracy; maintain high level of quality as defined by individual quality and productivity performance measures.
  • Identify issues and work with peers and management to recommend solutions to increase the quality of products and services.
  • Actively works to develop skills and expertise by actively participating in the departments continuing education program and completing assigned learning and development training modules.

Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Meteorology or equivalent military experience required.
  • Minimum of three (03) years of work experience as a meteorologist supporting aviation industry required.
  • FAA Dispatcher License or Air Traffic Control certification preferred.
  • Must be proficient and capable of working in a computerized office environment including:
    • Knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
    • Demonstrated keyboarding skills
    • Must be highly efficient at using Microsoft teams as a communication tool
  • Proficiency in navigating multiple databases simultaneously to serve clients in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability to apply attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data entered into proprietary trip support system
  • Ability to use a multi-line telephone to include, but not limited to placing calls on hold, transferring calls, and setting up conference calls
  • Ability to apply basic math skills to accurately calculate flight schedules
  • Ability to apply military time using 24-hour clock
  • General knowledge of geography and the ability to determine how it relates to travel
  • Ability to train in a remote environment with subject matter experts (SME’s) in Houston through a rigorous estimated 90-120 training program before being released for additional training through OJT with a mentor assigned by management.

Experience - 20 Years In relevant field also from foundry industries

Salary range is about 1 L
