Unit Head for Sugar Industry in Karnataka

Job Description:

Qualification: B.Tech / M.Tech with Sugar Engineering (or) B.Sc./M.Sc. with Sugar technology
Experience: overall 25 years of experience in sugar industry and should have worked as Unit Head for at least 5 years.
Language Skills Required: Kannada, Hindi & English
Work location: Karnataka

JOB PURPOSE: Over all In charge of the Sugar Factory/Division. In addition to Cogen and distillery operations

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Identify core areas for cane availability, development & their transportation to the unit.
Directing, leading & motivating workforce; imparting trainings for accomplishing greater operational efficiency.
Monitoring overall administration & operations of all departments for executing their jobs within cost & time parameters.
Executing cost saving techniques / measures and modifications to achieve substantial reduction in O&M expenditures and work within the budget.
Liaison with the Government Officials for redressal of issues and maintain good relations.
Create functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub- functions and develops Budgets / Policies / Procedures to support the Business.
Preparation, Implementation and control of Budget Section wise keeping in view of the proposed cane crushing target.
Achieve Cane Crushing, Recovery, and Plantation and H&T dues as per AOP.
Meeting timelines w.r.t. Off-seasonal works, Crushing days..etc
Ensuring Statutory compliances
EHS & ISO standards implementation. Succession Plan - Grooming middle mgt. & above people to take up higher jobs & responsibilities
Proposing the cost economical options to increase production, control losses, cap on inventory & lower production cost.
Distillery Operations, planning and maintenance

INTERNAL INTERACTIONS:
Interact with Unit HODs on daily basis to plan for the works in advance, review the progress of assigned works, take corrective measures during course of work
Interact with Corporate Functional Heads to clear the pending works whenever required.
Interact with Sr. VP - Operations for apprising on various issues and getting directions in proceeding further

EXTERNAL INTERACTIONS:
Maintain good relations with farmers.
Maintain cordial relations with local administration, politicians..etc to obtain statutory clearance, licenses and for smooth running of the business.
Interaction with various stake holders in implementation of CSR activities

Financial Dimensions:
Responsible for PBT as per the targets.
Improve technology to minimize cost of production.
Reduce wastages and un wanted expenditure.
R&M and O&M Budget (Sugar) – RS. (Budgeted figure)
R&M and O&M Budget (Cogen) – RS. (Budgeted figure)
R&M and O&M Budget (Distillery) – RS. (Budgeted figure)
Risk Identification & Mitigation Continual improvement in process improvement and procedures.
Introduce best practice among the sugar industry.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Hands on experience in cost optimization, yield improvement and develop guidelines for continuous improvement
Well versed with Statutory & Non-Statutory Compliances applicable to Sugars & Cogen sectors
Succession Plan – Experience in Mentoring and developing people to next level
Commercial bent of mind in areas of procurement, captive consumption of power, steam, Over Time reduction, Manpower Cost in new Hires,….etc
Expertise in Recovering H & T dues & advances
Implementation of Process Improvement methods w.r.t. cost optimisation and better control.
Bench-marking High Standards of Housekeeping in Plant, Office Premises & Township, Scrap Mgt….etc
