Process Technologist / Senior Process Technologist / Senior Scientist (R & D)
Job Description:
Chemical Engineer with vast experience as process technologist in petrochemical/ chemical/pharmaceuticals process in R&D.
• Possess proven R&D skills for various chemical / polymer process technology development / transfer technology.
Core Skills:
• Experience in setting up laboratories and experimental set ups for high temperature high pressure gas-liquid-solid catalyzed reactions, laboratory and pilot scale melt polymerization and de-polymerization set ups, vapor liquid equilibrium set up etc.
• Expert in heterogeneous catalytic reaction, kinetics, process development aspects of wet air oxidation, melt polymerization, polymerization, design of experiments etc.
• Hands on experience in scale up of various processes from laboratory to pilot plant scale.
• Data analysis/statistics expertise (analysis of experimental data, plant trends etc.)
• Hands on experience in scale up of various processes from laboratory to pilot plant. Scale.

• Hands on experience on analytical techniques (like HPIC, HPLC, GC, NMR etc)

• Reaction kinetics evaluations, designing and setting up experiments for process developments, statistical design and analysis of data, scale up & translation of lab scale to external and in house manufacturing.
• Having knowledge about conceptual process design & debottlenecking of plant through process modelling and simulations & process engineering and costing.
Skills:
• External manufacturing overseeing.
• Facilitate & support external toll manufacturing process for specialty polymer and monomer in translation to pilot scale from lab like (auditing contract manufacturer, reviewing & developing SOP, statistical modelling support, recommendation for process improvement, coordination with vendor & stakeholder) and providing regular updates to internal and external stakeholders.
• Process modelling & simulation
• Built various new models using various software (utilized Aspen plus for fixed bed reactor, grass root & retrofit plant model; Utilized Aspen custom modeler for building fixed bed pore diffusion model for catalyst performance evaluation and used Matlab for Simulated moving bed reactor model & adsorption parameter estimation during PhD)
• Process development (Lab scale experimental set up, fundamental (kinetics/VLE/VP) data generation, process tolerance)
• Developed lab scale process for synthesis of new monomer using heterogeneous catalyst in continuous vapour phase reactor; scaled up this process to generate sufficient material for isolation of product. Commissioned vapor phase reactor and used it to screen various catalyst performance evaluation,
• designed & executed DOEs & kinetic runs for suitable catalyst to establish the transfer functions & kinetics Classification: Internal Use Translation of lab scale to pilot scale (In-house & external tollers), preparation of standard operating procedure, lab-scale experiment design, fundamental data (reaction kinetics, Vapor-liquid and adsorption equilibria) generation to support first principle modeling activity.
• Reaction Kinetics (Heterogeneous, alkylation, reactor model, kinetics evaluation) Kinetic data generation using lab scale batch reactor & continuous reactor and thereby kinetics parameters fittings & evaluations by suitable modeling using various tools Simple & complex reactor model development using Aspen plus by utilizing kinetics parameters and recommend the operating strategy via virtual experimentations Statistical Analysis (Classical DOEs, regression analysis) Designed & executed DOEs using JMP tool along key operating process parameters to establish the transfer functions for catalyst performance.
• Fitted various reaction kinetics, VLE & physical property parameters (viscosity, density, Cp) based on experimental datas by executing nonlinear regression analysis using various tools like Aspen plus, Aspen custom modeler & Excel.
• Process Engineering & Intensifications (Conceptual process design for grass-root & retrofit process, reaction kinetics, Debottlenecking, Process costing, divided wall column, simulated moving bed reactor) Leveraged process-engineering skills to support the business case by evaluating CAPEX and OPEX of retrofit & grass root process post extracting the sizing data from the P&ID or through suitable modeling & equipment sizing.
• Gained experience by working on some of the process intensification technologies e.g. Reactive Chromatography, Divided wall distillation column, Micro reactor, thin film evaporator.
• Supporting external toll manufacturing process for one of the company Specialty product in translation to pilot scale from lab (Development of SOP, recommendation for process improvement, coordination with vendor & stakeholder) and translation from pilot to commercialization of product.
• Commissioned vapor phase reactor and used it to screen various catalyst performance evaluation, designed & executed DOEs & kinetic runs for suitable catalyst to establish the transfer functions for catalyst performance parameter.
• Novel operating strategy for plant reactor via virtual experimentation was recommended post building a kinetics & pore diffusion reactor model for heterogeneous catalyst using Aspen plus & Aspen custom modeler.
• Built new and leverage existing process simulation model for debottlenecking studies for plant for capacity enhancement.
• Recommended improved operating windows based on simulation of mixing behaviors using Visimix tool to support the scale up trial at pilot scale for special grade polymers.
• Established myself as key person in the group for doing statistical analysis need to colleagues related to DOE, process capability and regression analysis.
