Job Description:

Purpose- Why does this role exist?
To manage the day to day basis safety activities including shift management, maintain and sustain safety management system and develop sustainable safety culture in the Plant.

Position reports to: AGM (Safety)

Positions reporting: L1-L7

Key Result Areas (Key Performance Indicators)

  • To ensure the safety culture all policy related activities implementation as per JSW group safety guidelines
  • Complete ownership of statutory compliances of the factory in coordination with all stakeholders.
  • To ensure the functioning of Apex safety meeting, DIC’s meeting along with all subcommittee meeting as per group policy.
  • To implement the work permit system and LOTO in the plant as per procedure
  • Development of safety procedures of all activities and implement it across the plant as per group safety guidelines.
  • To ensure the conducting of RCA of critical near misses, minor or major incidents and implement the corrective action plan.
  • To ensure the various safety audits on the field as per group software platform.
  • Ownership of vendor assessment along with CSM Subcommittee before assigning the job.
  • To facilitate the Health and Safety related trainings to the plant people as per roles & responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and monitor the compliances of Fire NOC in the plant.
  • Lead the Firefighting team and make sure firefighting team ready for any situations.
  • To ensure upkeep of fire hydrant pump house, fire protection system, fire extinguishers, other firefighting equipment’s and Fire alarm system frequent inspections through relevant checklists 
  • Ensure ground level execution of compliances according to Register of Regulations
  • Sharing of all best practices to the team through TBT’s and meetings.
  • Ensure various OCPs/SOPs are being followed thoroughly on shop floor, improve the process gradually and take remedial measures if found violations
  • Conduct various mock drill for ensuring our preparedness in case of emergency
  • Motivate the employees towards safety by conducting the motivational program at work places.  
  • Conduct internal and external audit as per Factory Acts Norm.


Critical Tasks:

  • Responsible for smooth functioning of the Safety department.
  • Responsible for the smoot functioning of Apex Committee meeting.
  • Ensure Compliance of the point raised in Apex Committee Meeting and in other subcommittees including DIC.
  • Develop Plant level specific Health and Safety Standards and Procedures.
  • Responsible for fulfill the requirements of IMS system in the department.
  • Coordinate to obtain the Fire NOC from Karnataka State Emergency and Rescue Services department.
  • Having adequate knowledge for applying for various awards such as CII, NSC etc.
  • Oversee campaigns for improvement areas based on reviews and findings from Audits, Accident/incident investigations etc.
  • Monitor and prepare Plant Level Paints Score card for leading and lagging H&S Indicators.
  • Monitor and implement Health and Safety Plan for all the Paint Sites, provide guidance to site safety team to achieve the targets
  • Interact with Site Heads and HODs on the performance improvement plans and monthly, quarterly and yearly status 
  • Implement best health and safety practices in the Plant.

Decision making authority (Decisions expected):

  • Purchase requests from the department
  • Approve the corrective /Preventive actions initiated for the deviations in the process activities as well as non-conformities reported during Internal, third party or statutory inspections/audits.
  • Authorize submission of the departmental documents for approval by Plant Head
  • Review the progress of activities/objectives and approve changes where required
  • Assign/reassign the personnel for various roles within the department
  • Assign personnel to represent the department in various cross functional reviews/meetings
  • Approve any changes in safety process parameters in consultation with Other related functions and Plant Head& Head.
  • Approve reports released from the department for submission to Top management and statutory and regulatory authorities.
  • Approve the use of fire & safety equipment after verifying the suitability through monitoring/verification/trial run

 

Desired Profile / Criteria / Skills :

Educational Background and Work Experience:

  • BSc/Degree in Engineering Preferable Chemical and Advance Diploma in Industrial Safety from CLI & RLI only.
  • BE/B.Tech : 8 years
  • BSC Diploma :12 Years
