US Tax Reviewer
Overview: As a US Tax Reviewer, candidate’s primary role is to review and validate the accuracy and compliance of tax returns prepared by the tax preparation team. He/she will play a crucial part in ensuring that all tax returns meet the highest standards, are error-free, and comply with current tax laws and regulations. He/she should have substantial experience of reviewing Federal & State tax returns and projection for more complex high net worth Individuals, Partnership, Corporation, Trust, Fiduciary & Gift Tax Returns. (1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120C, 990 & Etc). He/she should have sound knowledge of preparing & reviewing non-resident and expatriate tax returns and should having a knowledge of forms 2555, 5471, 5472, 1116, 1118, 8992, 8993 & etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Assurance:
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of tax returns prepared by junior tax preparers for individuals, businesses, and other entities.
- Verify the accuracy of calculations, ensuring adherence to tax laws and regulations.
- Identify and address any errors, inconsistencies, or potential issues in tax returns.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay abreast of changes in tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles to provide accurate guidance during the review process.
- Assist in resolving complex tax issues and provide support to junior preparers.
- Client Communication:
- Communicate with tax preparers to provide feedback, clarification, and guidance on the tax return review process.
- Address any questions or concerns raised by tax preparers and provide constructive feedback to facilitate learning and improvement.
- Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain detailed documentation of the review process and any adjustments made to tax returns.
- Ensure that all review procedures are properly documented for compliance and quality control purposes.
- Training and Development:
- Provide mentoring and training to junior tax preparers, offering guidance on tax regulations, software usage, and best practices.
- Assist in the development of training materials to enhance the skills and knowledge of the tax preparation team.
- Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with senior management to identify areas for process improvement in the tax preparation and review workflow.
- Propose and implement changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the tax review process.
- Deadline Management:
- Manage review schedules to meet tight deadlines, ensuring timely completion of high-quality tax returns.
- Coordinate with the tax preparation team to address any issues that may arise during the review process.
- Maintaining the client deliverables tracker, ensuring completeness of work, tracking queries, monitoring status updates, and managing other pertinent information. (The client deliverables tracker serves as a crucial tool for monitoring project progress, addressing queries promptly, and maintaining transparency in the overall tax review workflow.)
- Client Consultation:
- Collaborate with clients to address any inquiries or concerns related to the tax return review process.
- Provide insights and recommendations to clients on optimizing their tax positions and addressing potential issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Enrolled Agent (EA) certification is often preferred.
- Substantial experience in US tax preparation with a focus on reviewing tax returns.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software and a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
