Job Description:
A Shift Incharge, Mechanical (DRI) oversees and manages the mechanical operations of a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant during a shift, ensuring safe and efficient production by supervising maintenance, resolving mechanical issues, coordinating with other departments, managing shift personnel, and ensuring compliance with safety and production standards. Key responsibilities include equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and leading the shift team.
Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership:Lead and supervise a team of maintenance personnel (fitters, technicians, helpers) during the shift.

Safety and Compliance:Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, procedures, and environmental standards to maintain a safe working environment.

Mechanical Maintenance:Coordinate and execute preventive and corrective maintenance for all mechanical equipment, including belt conveyors, crushers, kilns, and handling systems.

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:Quickly identify and resolve operational problems and mechanical equipment issues to minimize downtime.

Production Oversight:Monitor and optimize plant parameters to meet production targets, maintain quality, and improve plant efficiency.

Coordination:Liaise with other departments (e.g., process, utilities) to ensure smooth and integrated operations.

Reporting:Prepare and deliver detailed reports on shift performance and any issues encountered to the incoming shift incharge.

Manpower and Resource Management:Allocate manpower and resources effectively to achieve shift objectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, particularly as it applies to DRI and sponge iron plants.
- Maintenance Skills: Proficiency in preventative and predictive maintenance techniques.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills to address operational challenges.
- Leadership: Ability to guide, motivate, and manage shift personnel effectively.
- Communication: Good coordination and communication skills to interact with various teams and departments.
- Safety Consciousness: A strong commitment to safety protocols and standards.
- Educational Background: Typically, a Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, with at least 2 years in a shift-incharge or supervisory role in a heavy industry setting, preferably a DRI plant.
