Job Description:
- Lead and manage the instrumentation and control systems department, including instrument technicians, engineers, and support staff, to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of instrumentation systems.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies, procedures, and schedules to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of instrumentation and control systems.
- Oversee the design, installation, commissioning, and calibration of instrumentation and control systems for new projects, upgrades, and modifications within the plant.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to identify instrumentation requirements, specify appropriate instruments and control strategies, and ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Monitor and analyze process variables, equipment performance data, and control system feedback to optimize plant operations, improve efficiency, and reduce energy consumption.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation issues, diagnose faults, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of instrumentation systems, equipment, and infrastructure to identify deficiencies, vulnerabilities, or opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, control narratives, and maintenance records, to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
- Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials required for instrumentation maintenance and repair activities, and ensure adequate stock levels to support plant operations.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to instrumentation technicians and engineers to enhance their skills, knowledge, and performance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, standards, and procedures, and promote a culture of safety awareness among the instrumentation team.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in instrumentation and control systems, and incorporate them into plant operations and maintenance strategies.
- Participate in the planning and execution of plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and capital projects, providing technical expertise and support as needed.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and regulatory agencies to support plant objectives and ensure regulatory compliance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in instrumentation engineering, maintenance, and management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role within the steel manufacturing or heavy industry sector.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation principles, techniques, and technologies used in industrial processes, including but not limited to sensors, transmitters, control valves, DCS, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
- Hands-on experience with instrumentation design, installation, calibration, and troubleshooting in a process plant environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse team of instrumentation professionals.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities, with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and practices related to instrumentation work and industrial processes.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), data analysis software, and Microsoft Office applications.
