Job Description:

 

**Job Summary:**
The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing medical reports dictated by physicians and other healthcare professionals. This role involves listening to voice recordings and converting them into written documents, ensuring that all medical records are precise, complete, and compliant with healthcare regulations.

**Key Responsibilities:**

1. **Transcription:**
- Listen to and accurately transcribe dictated recordings from physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Convert voice recordings into written reports, including patient histories, discharge summaries, operative reports, consultation notes, and other medical documents.
- Ensure correct spelling, grammar, and medical terminology in transcribed documents.

2. **Editing and Proofreading:**
- Review and edit transcribed reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Correct any inconsistencies, errors, or missing information in the transcriptions.
- Verify the accuracy of patient information, medical terminology, and treatment procedures.

3. **Documentation Management:**
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all transcribed documents.
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of transcriptions to the appropriate healthcare providers.
- Manage and store digital and hard copy records according to hospital policies and confidentiality regulations.

4. **Compliance and Confidentiality:**
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and data security.
- Ensure all transcriptions are compliant with legal and ethical standards.

5. **Communication:**
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals to clarify any unclear or ambiguous dictations.
- Collaborate with the medical records team to ensure accurate and timely documentation.

6. **Technology Utilization:**
- Operate transcription equipment and software efficiently.
- Stay updated with the latest transcription technologies and best practices.

7. **Quality Assurance:**
- Participate in quality assurance processes to ensure the highest standards of transcription accuracy.
- Report any issues or discrepancies to the Medical Records Manager/Supervisor.

**Qualifications:**

- **Education:** High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical transcription from an accredited program preferred.
- **Experience:** Previous experience as a medical transcriptionist or in a related field is preferred.
- **Skills:**
- Excellent listening and typing skills.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology.
- Proficient in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Proficient in using transcription software and word processing programs.

**Working Conditions:**

- Standard office environment within the hospital.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and use transcription equipment and computers.
- Occasional need to work evenings or weekends to meet deadlines.
