A Mechanical Head of Department (HOD) - Mill Job Description involves leading and managing the mechanical maintenance and operations of a mill or production facility, focusing on equipment maintenance, process optimization, team supervision, and ensuring overall operational efficiency, safety, and compliance. Key responsibilities include developing preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting mechanical issues, managing spare parts, supervising junior staff, and ensuring equipment availability and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Lead, manage, and develop the mechanical maintenance team.
- Coordinate with other departments to optimize plant operations and maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with staff and management to achieve departmental goals.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance (PM) programs and schedules to ensure equipment availability and minimize breakdowns.
- Oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of all mechanical equipment within the mill.
- Ensure compliance with PM schedules and accurately reflect compliance in the system.
- Operations and Efficiency:
- Optimize mechanical systems and processes to enhance production efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the mill's mechanical systems and equipment.
- Manage the inventory and procurement of spare parts.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations and standards.
- Take responsibility for the cleanliness and safety of plant equipment and areas.
- Technical Expertise:
- Analyze problems and provide technical solutions for mechanical issues.
- Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in mechanical engineering.
- Evaluate data and reports to determine optimal maintenance schedules and strategies.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education:Typically requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience:Significant experience (e.g., 12-20 years) in mechanical maintenance within a similar industrial setting, such as a power plant or steel mill.
- Technical Skills:Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools for designing, analyzing, and maintaining mechanical systems.
- Soft Skills:Strong leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for managing a team and coordinating activities.
- Knowledge:Experience with ERP systems, particularly for managing maintenance processes (e.g., SAP PM Module).
