Job Description:

POSITION: General Manager - Insecticidal Bed Nets Manufacturing
Location: Tanzania

Company Overview: The company is the leading manufacturer in  Tanzania, specializing in the production of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Bed Nets. The company is dedicated to combating malaria and improving public health outcomes through the manufacturing of WHO-approved products.

Position Overview: We are seeking a visionary and strategic CEO or General Manager to lead the manufacturing operations of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Bed Nets The candidate shall possess a strong technical background in manufacturing nets from HDPE and a proven track record of driving efficiency and innovation in a competitive market. The candidate shall be able to effectively manage people, drive innovation, increase efficiency, and minimize operational costs. Additionally, fluency in Swahili would be highly advantageous for this role.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the LLINs Division, focusing on increasing efficiency, minimizing expenses, and driving innovation.
    • Lead the development and implementation of new technologies, processes, and product designs to improve the efficacy, durability, and impact of LLINs in combating malaria.
  2. Technical Expertise:
    • Possess an in-depth understanding of the manufacturing processes, technical specifications, and quality standards associated with LLINs.
    • Stay updated with industry trends and technological advancements.
  3. Operational Management:
    • Develop and execute strategies to enhance operational efficiencies, drive innovation, and maintain competitiveness in the LLIN manufacturing market.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the division, including production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure timely and efficient manufacturing processes.
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence within the organization to achieve operational goals and drive business success.
  4. Efficiency Improvement:
    • Implement best practices in lean manufacturing, quality control, and supply chain management to optimize production processes and meet market demands effectively.
    • Identify opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and cost-saving measures to increase operational efficiency and improve profitability.

 

  1. Quality Assurance:
    • Establish and enforce rigorous quality control standards to ensure that all products meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards.
  2. Technical Innovation:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, exploring new technologies, materials, and production methods to enhance product performance, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
  3. Goal Setting Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for setting goals that align with organizational objectives.
    • Develop and implement actionable strategies to help the team meet their targets.
    • Set key performance indicators to measure success.
    • Regularly review performance metrics and make strategy adjustments as necessary.
  4. Team Management:
    • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team, including production managers, engineers, quality control specialists, and other relevant personnel.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, motivation, and continuous professional development.
  5. Time Management and Decision-Making Skills:
    • Adhere strictly to timely deadlines and be strong enough to make effective decisions in day-to-day operations to improve organizational efficiency.
    • Submit reports and analyses in a timely manner.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as sales, marketing, and procurement, to understand customer needs, market trends, and product requirements.
    • Maintain effective communication channels to facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
  7. Budgeting and Financial Management:
    • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and performance management to ensure efficient use of resources and maximize the impact of LLIN distribution programs.
    • Develop and manage budgets for the division, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation while achieving financial targets.
  8. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about relevant industry regulations, standards, and certifications.
    • Ensure compliance with local regulations, quality standards, and environmental practices to uphold the company's reputation and commitment to sustainability.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape to inform strategic decision-making and maintain a leadership position in the market

  9. Swahili Language Skills:
    • Communicate effectively with Swahili-speaking team members, customers, and suppliers to build strong relationships and leverage business opportunities.

Qualifications and Skill Sets:

  • Graduate/post-graduate in Engineering/Textile Engineering or related field. Additional certification in Business Management/Administration, Production, and Operations Management will be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of executive leadership experience in manufacturing, with a focus on driving efficiency and innovation in a competitive market.
  • Strong technical background in manufacturing nets from HDPE, with expertise in quality control, process optimization, and supply chain management.
  • Proven track record of engaging with donor-funded programs, NGO organizations, and public-private partnerships in the global health sector, particularly in malaria control initiatives.
  • Involvement in training and development of the core team to upskill their expertise.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale manufacturing operations and delivering high-quality products on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to motivate and inspire teams to achieve common goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions based on data and market insights.
  • Proficient in budgeting, financial analysis, and cost management.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, innovations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Fluency in Swahili would be highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical innovation, increase efficiency, and minimize expenses.
