Roles & Responsibilities:
A personnel officer is responsible for managing employees and their related activities, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation:
- Recruitment: Help recruit new employees, screen applications, and conduct interviews
- Onboarding: Assist new employees in finding their work environment and onboarding process
- Training: Plan and implement training and development activities for employees
- Performance: Evaluate employee performance and conduct
- Policies: Develop and maintain HR policies, handbooks, and procedures
- Records: Maintain confidential employee records and files
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable legislation
- Payroll: Ensure employees are paid correctly and on time
- Benefits: Ensure employees receive the correct benefits
- Support: Arrange employee support services like welfare and counseling
- Advice: Provide advice on sickness absence, performance, employment relations, pay negotiations, and redundancy
- Complaints: Handle complaints and disciplinary procedures
Personnel officers should have strong communication and problem-solving skills, and be able to work well with people from all types of backgrounds. They should also be able to see things from both the employer's and employee's perspective, and keep confidences.
