An ITI Machinist, or machinist, is responsible for operating and maintaining machine tools to produce precision parts for a variety of industries. Their duties include:

Setting up and operating machineryMachinists set up, calibrate, and operate machines like lathes, milling machines, and grinders. They also select the right tools, materials, and machining techniques.

Reading drawings and blueprintsMachinists use blueprints, sketches, or computer-aided design (CAD) to understand the requirements for each part.

Taking precise measurementsMachinists take precise measurements to ensure the parts are cut and shaped correctly.

Monitoring productionMachinists monitor the machining process and intervene if there are any issues.

Maintaining equipmentMachinists perform routine maintenance on equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.

Inspecting finished partsMachinists inspect the finished parts for any flaws or defects.
Machinists should have a strong understanding of machining principles and metallurgy, as well as excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. They should also be proficient in CNC machining and CAD software.
