A garment CAD operator uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create and modify garment patterns. Their responsibilities include:
- Creating technical drawings: Creating detailed technical drawings and digital CAD files for garments and accessories
- Developing specifications: Developing and maintaining accurate specifications and tech packs for production
- Overseeing sample creation: Overseeing the creation of garment samples using the developed patterns
- Analyzing design concepts: Analyzing design concepts and making design changes
- Grading patterns: Grading patterns for different sizes
To become a CAD operator, you can complete an associate degree or certificate program in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD). Many employers also offer on-the-job training.
