An ITI (Industrial Training Institute) mechanical fitter's job is to assemble, install, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment. They work in accordance with safety standards and technical specifications. Some of their responsibilities include:
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Ensuring proper alignment, fit, and clearance of components
- Verifying dimensions, tolerances, and specifications of parts
- Performing fitting, assembly, and installation of mechanical components
- Designing new parts for machines
- Ensuring new parts or updates are compatible with existing machinery
- Performing routine repairs and upkeep
Fitters use various machines, tools, and other specialized equipment, such as shears, power saws, cutting torches, and more. They also need to have knowledge of metallurgy, welding, and engineering concepts.
Fitters often work in manufacturing facilities and large commercial buildings. They need to be able to work well with others, have physical strength and stamina, and pay close attention to detail.
