Overview
The Head of Anaesthesia in the ICU for the Oncology Department plays a crucial role in ensuring high-quality anaesthetic care for patients undergoing oncological procedures. This position focuses on managing the anaesthesia services in the ICU, where the demand for specialized anaesthetic management for cancer patients is significant. The Head of Anaesthesia will be responsible for leading a team of anaesthesiologists and coordinating with surgical teams, oncologists, and nursing staff to facilitate comprehensive patient care. The role demands a deep understanding of cancer-related complications and the anaesthetic implications of oncology surgeries. The Head of Anaesthesia will also lead the development of clinical protocols, improve patient outcomes through evidence-based practices, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. This position is essential for improving the overall quality of surgical services provided to cancer patients while maintaining a safe and efficient anaesthesia service in the ICU.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all anaesthesia services in the ICU for the Oncology Department.
- Manage a team of anaesthesiologists and support staff.
- Collaborate with oncologists and surgical teams to plan and execute anaesthesia for oncological surgeries.
- Conduct thorough pre-anaesthetic assessments for patients.
- Develop and implement pathways for anaesthetic management of oncology patients.
- Evaluate and monitor patients' vital signs throughout surgical procedures.
- Administer anaesthetic agents with precision and care.
- Provide post-operative care and pain management strategies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to discuss complex cases.
- Educate and train junior anaesthesiology staff and residents.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in anaesthesia and oncology.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols in anaesthesia.
- Assist in research and clinical trials related to anaesthesia in oncology.
- Engage in community outreach programs related to cancer care.
Required Qualifications
- MD, DNB, or DA in Anaesthesiology from a recognized institution.
- Proven experience in anaesthesia, particularly in oncology settings.
- Strong knowledge of critical care protocols and practices.
- State medical license and board certification in Anaesthesiology.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in anaesthesia within an ICU.
- Experience in leading a team and managing clinical operations.
- Advanced certification in pain management is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with electronic health records and anaesthesia management systems.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in conducting educational sessions and presentations.
- Research background in anaesthesia or oncology is advantageous.
