Job Description:
A "tipper driver," also known as a dump truck driver, is a commercial vehicle operator responsible for driving large trucks equipped with a tipping mechanism to transport and deliver bulk materials like gravel, sand, soil, or debris to construction sites, by safely navigating to designated locations, loading the material, and then unloading it by tipping the truck bed at the required spot, while adhering to all safety regulations and company policies. 
 
Key responsibilities of a tipper driver:
  • Vehicle operation:
    Safely operate a tipper truck, including maneuvering in tight spaces and on challenging terrains. 
     
  • Loading and unloading:
    Effectively load and unload materials by coordinating with loaders or other equipment, ensuring proper weight distribution and accurate dumping at designated areas. 
     
  • Pre-shift inspections:
    Conduct thorough pre-shift vehicle checks to identify and report any mechanical issues, ensuring the truck is roadworthy. 
     
  • Route planning:
    Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules, adhering to traffic laws and regulations. 
     
  • Documentation:
    Maintain proper paperwork including delivery receipts, load manifests, and logbooks. 
     
  • Safety compliance:
    Prioritize safety by following all safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and reporting any hazards. 
     
  • Basic maintenance:
    Perform minor maintenance tasks like checking fluid levels and tire pressure. 
     
  • Communication:
    Communicate effectively with dispatchers, loaders, site personnel, and other stakeholders. 
     
 
Required skills and qualifications:
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Valid heavy-duty CDL with appropriate endorsements for operating a tipper truck. 
     
  • Experience: Prior experience driving tipper trucks or other large commercial vehicles. 
     
  • Physical fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like climbing in and out of the truck, securing loads, and operating controls. 
     
  • Mechanical knowledge: Basic understanding of truck mechanics to identify potential issues. 
     
  • Safety awareness: Strong commitment to safety procedures and rules.
