Job Description:
A Purchase Officer in a steel pipes manufacturing company manages end-to-end procurement of raw materials (steel coils/plates), consumables, and machinery spares. Key duties include sourcing vendors, negotiating contracts, tracking deliveries, managing inventory, and collaborating with production to ensure uninterrupted operations, typically using ERP systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers for raw materials (steel plates, coils, ferroalloys) and consumables to build long-term relationships and reduce supply chain risks.
- Procurement Operations: Manage the entire purchase cycle: issuing inquiries, preparing comparative statements, generating purchase orders (POs), and tracking deliveries.
- Negotiation & Cost Control: Negotiate price, payment terms, and delivery schedules to optimize costs. Monitor market trends (e.g., LME rates, metal prices) to achieve budget targets.
- Inventory Control & Logistics: Monitor raw material stock levels to prevent stockouts or over-ordering. Coordinate with logistics for timely material receipt, ensuring quality standards (e.g., MTC reconciliation).
- Coordination & Compliance: Work closely with production, quality assurance, and finance teams. Maintain accurate documentation for purchases, invoices, and audit requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in procurement within the steel, fabrication, or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of steel products (coils, pipes) and raw materials.
- ERP Proficiency: Experience with ERP software for inventory and purchase management.
- Negotiation Skills: Strong abilities to negotiate contract terms.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
