The Lead Engineer is an individual contributor 'hardware owning' engineer reporting to an Engineering Manager within the Aerospace Engineering Division's Integrated Manufacturing Engineering team. As a hardware owner you will own all engineering functions related to the production of assigned Commercial and Aero-derivative components in the Combustors and Structures commodities.

In this role, you will be on the front lines of an organization that is dedicated to improving the producibility, enhancing the Engineering-Supply chain relationship, and using SQDC to dramatically improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers' expectations.

Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes, on-going manufacturing support, and strategic improvements across Castings, Forgings, Machining, and Coatings for the assigned commodity.

The person on this job Impacts departmental operations and is responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD/ MTech/ MS/ BTech in Mechanical/ Aerospace/ Structural Engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years of relevant experience on Stress Analyses of aircraft engine/ turbomachinery components
  • Demonstrated experience on applying Geometry, Finite Element and optimization methods for design evaluation
  • Demonstrated expertise on Commercial FE Packages such as ANSYS
  • Strong oral and written communication skill

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, especially of Aerospace components.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Effective project management skills
  • Exposure to Aircraft engines or Gas turbine product knowledge
  • Ability to build macros/ automation within work area
  • Ability to start problem solving from first principles, hand calculation.
  • Awareness of Lean/Six-sigma methodologies
