PLANT HEAD

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plant Operations Management:

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the mining plant to ensure efficient processing of minerals from raw material extraction to final product.

• Develop and implement strategies to maximize plant efficiency, improve throughput, and reduce operational costs.

• Monitor production performance, plant equipment, and process operations to meet production targets and quality standards.

• Ensure proper resource allocation and staff management to support ongoing operations.

2. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:

• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Lead efforts to develop and promote a safety-first culture, with regular safety audits, hazard identification, and incident investigations.

• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental regulations, including waste disposal, emissions, and water management.

• Implement and oversee environmental management practices, including rehabilitation and reclamation of mining areas.

3. Plant Maintenance and Optimization:

• Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs for plant equipment to minimize downtime and extend the life of machinery.

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with equipment, processes, and systems.

• Oversee upgrades, plant modifications, and improvements to optimize performance and ensure reliability.

4. Staff Leadership & Management:

• Lead and manage the plant's operational team, including engineers, technicians, and support staff.

• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• Conduct regular training and development programs to ensure staff are equipped with the skills required to perform effectively.

• Set performance objectives, conduct appraisals, and provide mentorship to develop team members.

5. Budgeting & Cost Management:

• Develop and manage the annual budget for the mining plant, ensuring cost-effective operations and optimization of resources.

• Monitor costs, identify areas for improvement, and implement cost-saving initiatives.

• Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and capital expenditure requests as needed.

6. Production Planning & Strategy:

• Collaborate with senior management to define production targets, growth strategies, and long-term goals for the mining plant.

• Develop production schedules to ensure optimal use of plant resources and meet customer demands.

• Oversee inventory management, including raw materials, consumables, and spare parts.

7. Quality Assurance & Process Control:

• Ensure the highest standards of product quality by implementing process control systems and quality assurance protocols.

• Monitor plant performance through data analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track production efficiency and product quality.

• Investigate deviations from production targets and quality standards, proposing corrective actions.

8. Stakeholder Management & Reporting:

• Liaise with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure the plant complies with all necessary legal and environmental requirements.

• Report on plant performance, issues, and strategic initiatives to senior management and other key stakeholders.

• Manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and other external partners involved in plant operations.
