In a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) or sponge iron plant, a mechanical fitter is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of mechanical equipment, including machinery, utilities, and plant systems, ensuring smooth and safe operation.

  • What is a DRI Plant?
    A DRI plant, also known as a sponge iron plant, produces iron from iron ore using a reducing gas, typically containing carbon and/or hydrogen. 
     
  • Role of a Mechanical Fitter:
    • Maintenance: They perform preventative maintenance, ensuring equipment is in good working order. 
       
    • Troubleshooting: They diagnose and fix mechanical issues that arise, including breakdowns and malfunctions.
