Job Description:
A Manager of Power Trading is responsible for managing the buying and selling of electricity, optimizing risk, and maximizing profit within a power trading operationThey may also be involved in business development, market analysis, and compliance with industry regulations, according to sources like iimjobs.com and TotalEnergies.com. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Trading:
    • Structured Power Trading: Developing and executing complex power transactions, including pricing, hedging, and risk management. 
       
    • Portfolio Management: Building and managing a profitable and risk-balanced portfolio of power products. 
       
    • Market Analysis: Monitoring market trends, identifying opportunities, and assessing risks. 
       
    • Risk Management: Identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks associated with power trading, including market volatility and regulatory changes. 
       
  • Business Development:
    • Opportunity Identification: Identifying and pursuing business opportunities for power supply, such as open access power deals. 
       
    • Client Engagement: Building and maintaining relationships with clients, including utilities, government organizations, and other power trading partners. 
       
    • Tender Preparation: Participating in and preparing bid documents for tenders of Open Access power supply. 
       
  • Compliance and Governance:
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards. 
       
    • Reporting and Analysis: Developing and implementing risk and P&L reporting, and providing market intelligence. 
       
    • Process Improvement: Improving efficiency of trading systems and processes. 
       
  • Team Management:
    • Leadership: Leading and mentoring a team of power traders and analysts. 
       
    • Communication: Communicating effectively with stakeholders, including internal teams and external clients. 
       
    • Strategy: Contributing to the development and implementation of trading strategies and business plans. 
       
Examples of Specific Tasks:
  • Developing and implementing hedging strategies to protect against price fluctuations. 
     
  • Pricing and quoting commercial opportunities brought by the origination teams. 
     
  • Collaborating with research and market analysis teams to assess market risks. 
     
  • Interacting with other trading desks and support function teams. 
     
  • Providing input into the development of new products and services. 
     
  • Managing and improving relationships with key market players. 
     
  • Participating in discussions to develop pricing models for linear and non-linear structures.
