MANAGER RAKE LOGISTICS FOR STEEL MANUFACTURING - JHARKHAND
Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Rake Logistics Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing end-to-end rake logistics operations for inbound and outbound material movement. The role ensures cost-effective, timely, and compliant rail logistics operations in coordination with Indian Railways, plant operations, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle local liaisoning with district administration, railway authorities, siding officials, and local stakeholders for smooth rake operations.
- Plan and execute rake placements, releases, and movements for raw materials and finished goods.
- Coordinate with Indian Railways officials for rake availability, placement schedules, and dispatches.
- Monitor rake loading/unloading operations to ensure minimum detention and demurrage.
- Ensure timely documentation, billing, and compliance with railway rules and regulations.
- Track rake movement and resolve transit delays, shortages, or operational issues.
- Optimize freight costs through negotiation and efficient rake utilization.
- Maintain MIS reports on rake movements, freight costs, demurrage, and turnaround time.
- Coordinate with plant, dispatch, and commercial teams for daily logistics planning.
- Ensure safety, statutory compliance, and operational discipline at sidings and yards.
- Manage logistics vendors, transporters, and handling contractors.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Graduate/Post Graduate in Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in rake logistics or railway freight operations.
- Strong knowledge of Indian Railways freight operations and procedures.
- Experience in bulk commodity logistics (coal, iron ore, limestone, ferro alloys, cement, steel, etc.) preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong coordination and negotiation skills.
- Excellent planning and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MIS reporting, and ERP systems.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Reporting To:
Head – Logistics / Operations
Working Conditions:
- Plant / siding-based role with extended working hours during peak operations.
- Frequent coordination with railway officials and on-ground teams.
Company Profile
manufacturing of billet and sponge iron and has a 6 mega watt waste recovery power plant. Currently H.A. Sponge and power has manufacturing capacity of 1 Lac M.T. per annum of Billet which . It has 3 kilns in sponge iron each with a capacity of 100 T.P.D. Which is self consumed.
