- Welding techniques: Proficient in various methods like TIG, MIG, and arc welding to join different metals.
- Metal preparation: Cutting, grinding, and preparing metal surfaces before and after welding.
- Equipment operation: Operating welding equipment, power tools (saws, squares, calipers), and other machinery safely and effectively.
- Quality control: Inspecting and testing welds to ensure they meet quality and structural integrity standards.
- Safety compliance: Adhering to safety regulations and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintenance and repair: Maintaining welding equipment and performing routine maintenance checks.
- Fabrication: Assembling and creating metal components according to customer needs and technical plans.
- Problem-solving: Developing solutions to issues that arise during the welding process.
Where they work:
Mechanical welders are employed in a wide range of industries, including:
- Construction: Building frameworks, bridges, and other structures.

-
Senior welders:Oversee complex projects, ensure quality standards, mentor junior welders, and may be involved in the design and development of welding systems.
Welding Processes:
-
TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding:Used for low-thickness metals and produces precise, clean welds, often without adding filler material.
-
MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding:Versatile and commonly used for a wide range of metals and thicknesses.
-
Arc Welding:Uses an electric arc to melt metal, often with the addition of a filler material, to create a strong bond.
