Job Description:
An Auto Mechanic's job involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles by inspecting mechanical and electronic systems, performing routine services (like oil changes, tire rotations), using diagnostic tools for complex issues, replacing worn parts (brakes, belts), and documenting all work, ensuring vehicles remain safe and functional for customers. They must stay updated on new automotive technology and communicate issues clearly to clients, often working with engines, transmissions, electronics, and sometimes specializing in electric vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnostics: Use computerized equipment to pinpoint issues with engines, transmissions, electronics, and other components.
- Maintenance: Conduct routine services like oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations.
- Repairs: Replace worn parts (brakes, sensors, belts) and fix mechanical/electrical problems.
- System Updates: Repair or update vehicle computer and electronic systems.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of services, parts used, and vehicle conditions.
- Customer Communication: Explain problems and repairs to customers in understandable terms.
- Safety Checks: Ensure vehicles meet safety and quality standards.
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of internal combustion engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and electrical systems.
- Diagnostic Tools: Expertise in using diagnostic software and hand/power tools.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to interact with colleagues and customers.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies, including electric vehicle systems.
