Job Description:
A T.G. Field Operator in a power plant is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of turbine and related equipment in the fieldThis role involves monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operation and Monitoring:
    Starting, stopping, and adjusting equipment like turbines, compressors, and other machinery, and monitoring parameters such as pressure, temperature, and flow. 
     
  • Maintenance and Repair:
    Conducting routine inspections, identifying and repairing malfunctioning components, and performing preventative maintenance on equipment. 
     
  • Troubleshooting:
    Diagnosing and resolving problems with equipment, using technical manuals and schematics. 
     
  • Safety Compliance:
    Adhering to all safety procedures and regulations, and maintaining a safe work environment. 
     
  • Record Keeping:
    Maintaining accurate logs of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and any abnormalities. 
     
  • Communication:
    Effectively communicating with other operators, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate activities and troubleshoot problems. 
     
  • Remote Operation:
    Utilizing computerized systems to operate equipment remotely. 
     
Specific Tasks:
  • Boiler Operation:
    Controlling and monitoring boiler systems, including coal-fired, biomass, or other types of boilers, to produce steam for electricity generation. 
     
  • Turbine Operation:
    Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of turbines, including monitoring their performance, troubleshooting issues, and performing maintenance. 
     
  • Instrument and Control Systems:
    Maintaining and repairing field instrumentation, valves, flow meters, transmitters, control circuits, and other related equipment. 
     
  • DCS and PLC Systems:
    Understanding and working with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) used in power plants. 
     
  • Auxiliary Equipment:
    Monitoring and maintaining auxiliary equipment such as pumps, compressors, and other systems that support the main power generation equipment. 
     
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    An associate's degree or equivalent experience in a technical or operational field is often required. 
     
  • Experience:
    Experience with power plant equipment, particularly turbines, boilers, and related systems, is highly desirable. 
     
  • Skills:
    Strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and effective communication skills are important. 
     
  • Knowledge:
    Understanding of safety protocols, control room operations, and relevant regulations is crucial.
