Job Description:

Job Title: Legal Head – GM / VP
Location: Bhopal
Reporting To: CEO

Purpose of the Position (Job Summary)

The Head Legal is responsible for leading the legal function of the company, ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance, managing corporate governance, and mitigating legal risks. The role involves providing legal counsel on corporate strategy, contracts, litigation, regulatory matters, and intellectual property rights. This position plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organization's legal interests while enabling business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory & Compliance Management – Ensure adherence to all statutory and regulatory requirements, including corporate, taxation, labor, and industry-specific laws. 
2. Internal Legal Support – Provide legal guidance to HR, finance, operations, and marketing teams on employment laws, financial regulations, and business operations.
3. Litigation & Dispute Resolution – Oversee legal disputes, manage litigation strategies, and coordinate with external legal counsel.
4. Contract Management & Legal Advisory – Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents to mitigate business risks.
5. Intellectual Property (IP) Protection – Manage and safeguard trademarks, patents, copyrights, and brandrelated legal aspects.
6. Government & External Liaison – Engage with regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and external legal firms for compliance and approvals.
7. Policy Development & Implementation – Establish and enforce company-wide legal policies, ethical guidelines, and compliance frameworks.
8. Ensure adherence to local, state, and national legal frameworks governing the alco-beverage industry.
9. Represent the company before regulatory authorities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies.
10. Assess the criticality of legal issues, evaluating potential risks, liabilities, and impact on business operations.
11. Provide strategic legal advice to internal stakeholders, including senior management and cross-functional teams.
12. Legal Reporting & Documentation – Maintain comprehensive legal records, ensure accurate reporting, and support internal audits.
13. Corporate Governance & Risk Management – Implement best practices in corporate governance, ensuring risk mitigation strategies align with business objectives. 14. Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Legal Support – Conduct due diligence and provide legal counsel on business expansion, acquisitions, and joint ventures.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT (Responsibility for leading, motivating and developing staff, excludes supervisory responsibilities)

1. Lead and mentor the legal team, ensuring professional growth and skill development.
2. Establish clear performance KPIs and monitor adherence to legal policies.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance compliance awareness and training.
4. Foster a proactive legal culture that supports business objectives while ensuring regulatory adherence.
5. Manage relationships with external legal advisors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.

DECISION – MAKING

1. Litigation Strategy & Case Management: Define company stance and legal positioning in disputes.
2. Regulatory & Compliance Measures: Ensure adherence to evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
3. Contract & Commercial Agreements: Approve, negotiate, and finalize key legal contracts.
4. Corporate Legal Risk Assessment: Identify and mitigate potential legal risks associated with business operations.
5. Legal Budget & Resource Allocation: Oversee legal department budgeting and resource planning.

KEY SKILLS REQUIRE

1. Legal & Regulatory Expertise – Deep knowledge of corporate, taxation, employment, and commercial laws.
2. Strategic Thinking & Risk Management – Ability to develop legal frameworks aligned with business growth.
3. Negotiation & Dispute Resolution – Expertise in handling legal disputes, contracts, and settlements.
4. Corporate Governance & Compliance – Proficiency in managing regulatory reporting and governance frameworks.
5. Stakeholder Management & Communication – Ability to interact with government bodies, legal entities, and business stakeholders

Experience 15+ years of experience in corporate legal affairs, regulatory compliance, and litigation management, preferably in AlcoBev, FMCG, or Manufacturing industries.

Educational Qualification LLB from a recognized university, LLM or specialization in Corporate Law preferred
