Job Description:

The Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating lathe machines to shape, cut, and finish metal or other materials according to precise specifications. The operator ensures that all machined parts meet quality standards and production targets while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual or CNC lathe machines for turning, threading, drilling, boring, and facing operations.

• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications to determine machining requirements.

• Measure and inspect finished parts using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy.

• Adjust machine settings, cutting speeds, and feeds for optimal performance.

• Monitor machine operations and maintain quality control throughout the production process.

• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of lathe machines to ensure proper functioning.

• Identify and report any mechanical issues or defects with machines or workpieces.

• Maintain accurate records of production quantities, machine performance, and material usage.

• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.

• Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and team members to improve processes and resolve issues.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proven experience operating manual or CNC lathe machines.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

• Proficient in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).

• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

• Knowledge of machining tolerances and materials.

• Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical problems.

• Good communication and teamwork skills.

• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

Working Conditions:

• Industrial or manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, metal chips, and machinery.

• May require standing for extended periods and handling heavy materials.

• Shift work and overtime may be necessary depending on production schedules.
