Job Description:
A General Manager (GM) of a mill is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall operations, efficiency, and profitability of a specific mill or manufacturing facility, such as a rolling mill. Their duties include setting production targets, managing budgets, leading and motivating staff, ensuring quality control, overseeing maintenance, and implementing strategies for continuous improvement and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight:Manage day-to-day mill operations, ensuring smooth production processes and efficiency.
- Production Management:Develop and implement production plans, monitor schedules, and adjust as needed to meet targets and deadlines.
- Quality Control:Establish and enforce quality standards for products, often involving the analysis and optimization of machine parameters and processes.
- Financial Management:Create and manage budgets, control costs, and analyze financial reports and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure profitability.
- Team Leadership:Lead, mentor, and motivate teams, fostering a positive and productive work environment, and managing performance and development.
- Maintenance & Improvement:Oversee mill maintenance, implement improvements to machinery, processes, and pass designs to increase yield and reduce waste.
- Strategic Planning:Develop strategic goals and objectives, identify growth opportunities, and drive initiatives for operational excellence and business growth.
- Compliance:Ensure adherence to industry regulations, safety standards (like OSHA), and internal organizational policies.

- Leadership & Management:Strong leadership, team management, and motivation skills.
- Technical Knowledge:Familiarity with manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing principles, and operational efficiency.
- Financial Acumen:Ability to manage budgets, analyze financial data, and control costs.
- Problem-Solving:Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Communication:Strong communication skills to coordinate with various departments and stakeholders.
- Education & Experience:A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (like manufacturing or business) and significant experience in production or manufacturing, often including several years in a management role.
